This was talked about the day Emery was hired. Wouldn't you expect him to bring in his own people?

My understanding was he'd utilize a mix of the old scouts and the new this season before doing a total staff turnover before the start of the college season next year.

Regardless, no matter what he does for the rest of the draft it appears everyone's already made up their minds about him and the Bears being dogshit this season, so why argue.

You have yet to see anything yet Dewskie. Wait til the season starts and the meatballs really get going. There are no meatballs quite like Bear meatballs.

Have to assume he would have been there in the 4th or 5th. I know of a team that graded him as a free agent. Wonder what led the Bears to believe they needed to snatch him now, and not later.

What had Emery done in his past jobs that made any of you believe in him.

And here's your O-Line explanation:

Emery on offensive line: "We feel good about our group."

Brandon Hardin
Oregon State (HT: 6-2⅝ - WT: 222)

Positives -- Great size and build, will have no problem with bigger tight ends and receivers in the NFL... Elite speed, ran a 4.38-40 at his pro day... Good at reading the quarterback's eyes and diagnosing plays... Great in the box safety with impressive tackling skills; an absolutely punishing tackler, just YouTube
his name and you will see some incredible hits... Great against the run and excels in blitzing... A beast on special teams, if for whatever reason Hardin does not pan out on defense he can be a consistent and impact player on special teams coverage... A great physical specimen with exceptional upside if he can stay healthy and make the transition to safety successfully... Has the potential to be part of a new breed of tall, speedy defensive backs... Despite missing the entire season, was invited to the East-West Shrine Game.

Negatives -- Played at Oregon State as a cornerback but will need to make his money at the next level playing safety... Has good speed but not enough to play tight man coverage against top end receivers... Needs more work on his fundamentals in coverage... Suffered a season ending shoulder injury, which teams will need to examine and keep their eyes on going forward... Sitting out the year will decrease his draft stock with the lack of recent game film... Is really a projection at safety, which will lower his stock come draft day... Was a combine snub which is concerning because the combine is great for teams to evaluate injuries and see players with less game film.

Pretty much sounds like Daniel Manning. Except this guy is a willing and punishing tackler.

Is Hardin slow and can't tackle too, that be icing on the cake?

It doesn't surprise me, but also it does. I was hoping with the Bears having a very aggressive off-season that maybe people would come out of their caverns of despair, but I guess there's no changing people.

Face it - nobody knows what will become of these guys. What are conceived as bad drafts turn out hall of fame players, sure things become busts.

The tidal wave of negativity, pessimism, and dismissal from some the posts here are really discouraging. These guys haven't even played a snap, but because Douche McBaggerson has the Bears in the bottom 5 of their draft grades, all the selected players are going to fail and Emery should be fired? Don't be an idiot.

If that's the kind of head-hanging ho-hum fan you want to be, then suit yourself. This team's been bold this offseason and made a lot of moves, but just because your prime choices are still on the board doesn't make this a bad draft at all. Get over it. Lighten up.

Is this your final act for the night, drama queen? I don't think there is a single person on this board who isn't highly optimistic about the Bears next year. Additionally, I don't think anyone has made any definitive statements about Emery because of this draft other than my admittedly meatballed Fire Emery thread.

I'm not a head-hanging ho-hum fan. But if my team refuses to address a position that is key in keeping the best QB of our lifetime upright, then I'm not going to be happy. Especially when a safety is drafted.....AGAIN. And an injury concern.......AGAIN. Doesn't make a lot of sense.

One thing is for sure based on his description and the youtube highlights. He'll be our gunner on punt coverage if he doesn't win the safety job this season.

On a positive note, the Bears backfield may be white lightening...big, fast, former CB who were too big for the position. The problem is the persistant one for Bears safeties, injuries.

I am tired of watching draft picks rehab so often it becomes impossible to evaluate them until the third year.

I'm not a drama queen, I just call it like I see it, and what I see is people getting butthurt because the Bears are passing on offensive linemen, and dismissing picks without hesitation because of it. Irrational jumps to flimsy conclusions.

Hardin's injuries do not seem like the type that are going to hinder him going forward. It is not like he has a bad knee or back.

again, the WR made a reception

Can't we find a picture of him running around with nobody near him?

I have no strong feeling about this pick. An injured combine warrior-type who wasn't invited to the combine.

I will neither fire or rehire Phil Emery at this time.

^ Hardin's pro day.

Says he's stronger than before the injury.

Dismissing the picks is a mischaracterization. I think people see ability with each of the picks. Two of the three appear to have resulted in missed opportunites to upgrade at red flag level need positions (not just OL but DT as well), with lower graded players being taken in substitute. Good drafting teams are the ones who take advantage of falling talent. There is legitimate grounds for grumbling despite your pollyanna reliance on authority.

Your position is that we shouldn't discuss these players until they have played a down. That is not going to happen.
