I need to bow out of this thread. I like big safeties.

Remember the OL in the late 1970's? Despite the line, Wally still gained yards.

I'm approaching this draft as what are we doing next year after Lovie is gone? How do these picks limit us going forward? I really think more people should look at it that way because Lovie will be let go after this year. They were forced into his scheme this year, but anything is possible after that.

Don't be so sure about Lovie being gone after this year. The Bears are poised for a good season & a good record. They have a schedule that is ridiculously weak. If the Bears win 10 games & make the playoffs...(I predict they will win 13)...teams don't fire head coaches who win 10 games & make the playoffs. Plus the McClaskeys love Lovie.

Having said that, I hope that you are right & Lovie is wacked. Bill Cowher is waiting for this job.

Like I said 2 years ago...the Bears should have hired Harbaugh when they had the chance.

I really wanted to make fun of Jacksonville for taking a punter in the 3rd round and then the Bears drafted another safety, except this time they took one that hasn't played a game in 18 months........

It's so rare. He should be recognized for it.

GD is right on draft picks so often that he should have a job in the NFL. I'll take his word before anybody else on this board when it comes to a draft. By far the best thoughts IMO.

2009 was by far worse than this one.

I was speaking more in terms of era than a particular line.

Next year has some potential but LT is still Webb and I haven't seen much development in him.

I'd like to see them use this pick to get an actual LT that has played there.

Barry Sanders did it in the 90's. I don't understand your point. It's 2012. We no longer have Walter Payton on this team or a player like him. The NFL is moving to passing intensive offenses and the Bears need pass protection.

The Bears have a greater level of pass protection over last year now that Martz is gone and Cutler can audible. I'm not thrilled, but I can live (I think) with another year of this line in an actual NFL offense. Obviously that is also what they are thinking. Kind of difficult to ultimately grade people on that line, under Martz.

I may be the only guy that still believes Webb can be our LT. I'm an eternal optimist though. Other than him I liked what I saw from everyone else. Especially Lance Louis.

Hardin's going to the IR, per Biggs. Lost season due to a bad/awkward tackle. Damn.

Played his redshirt freshman year with a cast on 1 hand and a sprained wrist on the other.
Broken shoulder in 2011. Amazing he's on IR for the year with his history of staying healthy.

Once again, in a year when the new GM says "our draft picks have to be impact players", the third round pick is a waste. Maybe Emery can just go safety-safety with rounds 1 and 2 next year to switch things up. While ignoring o-line.

Must be nice to take draft risks when you have such depth on your roster.

The early pages of this thread are an interesting read.

Most Bears draft picks redshirt their first year.

Maybe he can learn to tackle in his time off.

Agreed. Leading with the neck and crown of the helmet didn't exactly work out too well.

seems like you would need two good shoulders to tackle but i suppose he could launch head first just to piss off Bernstein
