2 run HR today. 5 HR and 16 RBI. Expect more of the same for the rest of the year.

Dunn gets on base more than Starlin Castro and he's slugging more than .500.

Dunn makes 10x more and had a lot bigger expectations/responsibilities for his team when he signed his contract.

That is true, but what Orr said is also true.

Also to date, Dunn has not been a liability playing 1st base. The same cannot be said of Castro at short.

No one appreciates spanky's work around here more than I, but it is clear both from the numbers and the eye test that Dunn is not the same guy as last year. He looks way better at the plate. He is never going to be a guy to hit for a high average. Not sure if he is "back", but he looks like he is going to have a year that is way closer to his career averages than the abortion that was last year.

Now if they could find some way to help Morel and Beckham...

They should each have their own thread as well, it would be fun. But it may be hard to track the stats as much in Charlotte.

Dunn has more expectations than Castro????? Isn't Castro the linchpin around which the '14 World Series champions are going to be built? Or is that Rizzo?

Dunn has more expectations than Castro?????

If you disagree with that statement, you have quickly forgotten the hype when Dunn was signed.
Send an email to Bernstein and ask him about the hype. Dunn (was) a proven vet that was the left-handed power bat the Sox desperately needed to take them over the top.
Castro was a teenager when he got here and is still essentially unproven over the long term.

Are the expectations for Castro higher or lower than those for Rizzo? I'm just curious since it's already clearly been established, right here in our very own forum, that many Cubs fans will be disappointed by anything less than a near Hall of Fame effort by Rizzo. That being the case I simply assumed that expectations for an honest-to-goodness .300 hitter in the big leagues might be somewhere in the Ernie Banks/Alex Rodriguez range. I don't believe any Sox fan thought that's what they were getting in Dunn.

You are twisting a whole bunch of thoughts/posts/details into a post that has nothing to do with how bad Adam Dunn has performed since being brought in with huge expectations and $$$$.

You keep posting his batting average, spany. He doesn't hit for a high average most of the time. He is a power guy and the stats that matter most for him HRs, RBI, and OPB, all of which are pretty good as it stands right now.

Why is it a Sox vs Cubs thing?

Ask the Cubs fan who keeps posting his batting average in this thread, but keeps ignoring the fact that the guy's power numbers have been pretty good so far.

Because a Cubs fan keeps posting his batting average (that he erroneously thinks is "bad") in a Whte Sox thread.

he's pretty much right on par with his earlier career norms. I would have thought it impossible and still have major doubts, but it would be a hell of a story.

I understand now.

His .159 avg last year was in no way indicative of how bad his season was at the plate.

It's indicative in that it was a component of a sub-.300 OBP. But he's getting on base at right around his career average. If he gets on 37% of the time and slugs .500 he's one of the best offensive players in the game. Posting his BA is as irrelevant as posting his shoe size.

I'm not sure about this. You seem to think it's very, very relevant.

I don't believe that the OP is correct, nor the title of the thread.

Is it ok if I give periodic updates that seem to support my stance?
