I don't believe that the OP is correct, nor the title of the thread.

Is it ok if I give periodic updates that seem to support my stance?

I didn't say if anything was right or wrong. I just asked a question.

:? Thanks?

Is it okay if I point out that your updates are supporting no such stance?

Believe what you will. I was seriously trying to get some clarification on what exactly was going on here. This was my first time viewing the thread and I didn't feel like going back to read it. But it looks like you're in defense mode, so I'll find something else to do...

You are not giving "periodic updates." You are updating this after almost every at bat, especially when he goes 0fer.

Nobody has said that Dunn was good last year. We all know it was awful. I don't think anybody really expects him to hit .300, or cut down on the strikeouts. That is part of his game. That .159 is in the past and any way you care to slice it, he is off to a MUCH better start than last year. At this point he is on pace for to put up numbers that appeared on the back of his baseball card every year other than 2011. You can try and deny that all you want, but the numbers so far would prove you are wrong.

Maybe you should start a thread for Albert Pujols. He has zero homeruns so far this year.

So you believe he is "back"? The numbers haven't proved me wrong at all. All of the numbers he (hasn't) put up for the Sox still count. They don't vanish. He has sucked - really bad - since he got here.

I disagree that he is "back". I think most people disagree. This isn't what they paid $56M for, IMO. It takes a lot of stretching to find anyway to say he is "back" to what he was before he got to the Sox. Don't have to stretch far at all to prove that he has sucked since he got there.

His strikeouts this year look better than his strikeouts last year.

I think it's safe to say that Cub fans who accuse Sox fans of caring more about the Cubs are just as hypocritical as Sox fans who do the same.

You are talking about last year. This thread is about this year. If you want to look at the numbers for this year, be my guest. 2011 is history and it was terrible, but it appears he has put that in the rearviewmirror and tried to start fresh this season. So far, its paid off.

5 HR, 16RBI thru April. If he does that each month for the rest of the year, he ends up with 30HR and 96RBI, which is 3 HR less and 1 RBI less than his 162 game average. Production like THAT is exactly what they paid $56million for.

Why are you taking this idiotic and hard-headed stance? His numbers this season (an admittedly small sample) are nothing like his numbers last season. It has nothing to do with this year's strikeouts looking better than last year's strikeouts. Dunn is going to strike out. He always has. He may even strike out as much as Brett Jackson does in Iowa. No surprise.

I didn't understand why you were using Dunn's BA. You gave your version of an answer....that was it.

For the calender year two thousand and twelve, you know, just for accuracy.

With the Hawks gone already this is how you figure you will entertain yourself with baseball? Or maybe you are jealous that a guy who hit a mere .159 last year has more HRs and more RBI than the entire Cubs outfield combined?

Dunn IS back, case closed.

I'm jealous that the guy who had the worst statistical season in the history of baseball has more HR's than the outfield of the worst team in the NL? :drunken:

Like I said, it takes some serious stretching to find a way to support that Dunn is "back". Even in 312's support of Dunn, he agrees with me. He is not "back" to what he was in Cinncy or Washington - and he says he never will be.

When Spiegel was suggesting Cubs/Sox prop bets, he had Soriano as the favorite to hit more homers than Dunn.

No. He's back because he's getting on 37% of the time and slugging .500. Are you following the conversation?

Based on what are you saying/thinking in this thread, either you are not following correctly or you clearly don't understand this conversation.

He's had 7 months of bad and a couple weeks of better than bad.

He's not back to what he was supposed to be when he signed here. Try to follow.

This is merely what you believe, for some strange reason, because Dunn's 2012 stats tell otherwise.

For some strange reason, I feel that if 25% of the length of the contract has resulted in the single worst year in the history of baseball, I'm gone need more than a decent 4% of the contract to declare him "back".

If Soriano had 5 HR's and 5 SB right now, would he be "back"? Of course not, that would be crazy talk.

Spanky,

Dunn's numbers are better now than they were at this time last year. I believe the point of the thread was to state that Dunn is off to a better start. What are you arguing exactly?

I guess spany's point, however foolish it may be, is that for him to consider Dunn back he must erase the horrible numbers he posted in 2011.

Since nobody expects him or think he is capable of hitting about .418 with 78 HRs and 199 RBI this season, he will never be "back" in spany's eyes.
