COD is becoming the Madden of FPS. Just rebrand it a bit, shake up the levels with new skins, adjust the fire rate on the guns and the gun stats, poof - new COD franchise.

But, to Treyarchs credit I did actually enjoy WaW and Black Ops better than MW2 and MW3.

MW3 was my last CoD game. Of course all my friends will by this and play it on line and that will push me to pick it up but oh well.

FWIW, I liked Black Ops better than MW3 too. Better maps.

Blops wasn't bad, but within 15 minutes I knew I was taking it back. The UMP was the perfect gun for everything, no point in working toward other guns. The majority of players were doing the flying fish flop kill (jump/prone/headshot), plus the unbearably annoying RC-XD made the game so much less about guns and more about getting the retarded killstreaks.

MW3 was by no means perfect, and the maps are kinda meh, but otherwise it's not bad. It's not nearly as good as MW2, but it's tolerable. MW2's major flaw was the knife-monkey class was far too easy to master and addicting. No-scoping and glitching ran rampant before Infinity Ward was able to get it taken care of, which was almost too little too late. However, the MW2 maps were amazing. I miss them all, sans Rust.

MW1 maps were the best, those were before the spawn-run to choke point-fire wildly- respawn- repeat. The games are just lazy and for 60 bones you gotta be kidding...I will do my best not to get sucked in.

But the CoD series will suffer the inevitable Activision fate...it will be a moderately paced, sad and painful decline....kind of like B&B.

I will boycott as well. It's not that I have a moral opposition to COD or Activision... rather, I'm just burned out on modern war FPS's unless there is something truly unique from a gameplay perspective.

I think a good business model would be to come up with a great game/engine... and then charge more for map packs. I'm not very familiar with video game development, but I would guess that if you came up with 3 good map packs per year, this would be easy to accomplish and very cost effective. I would assume map design is much easier than redeveloping a whole new game, storyline, soundtrack, etc.

I'm really curious to see how Mass Effect's multiplayer did in terms of additional revenues. I spent over $20 on Spectre Packs and I know plenty of folks who spent more. One guy I know spent over $50. Never underestimate how much a die-hard will pay for DLC, customization or weapons advantage (either real or perceived).

I'm done with shooters for a while. Too many crazy guys arguing with children...

Most modern shooters, esp. CoD, are glorified quick-time events or bare ass interactive cut scenes. A whole 5 hours worth. The multiplayer for MW2 and 3 was broken for a long ass time and it boils down to spawn, run, shoot, die and repeat. or Spawn, use the hack or unbalanced gun/map hack, repeat.

Time to move on.

I bought that "collection" on steam over Xmas for like 10 bucks, been playing it....I still like it.

Counter-Strike is fun, but the problem with all mouse/key shooters is that inevitably there's hackers, and/or a vast glob of the playing population that has FPS down to a science. My friend routinely plays FPS like Day of Defeat and is continuously kicked from games on suspicion of hacking, when really he knows exactly how to manipulate sniper rifles to one shot kill anyone from virtually anywhere without even an attempt at actually playing the game. He just knows.

I play MW3 through Steam and the no-scoping bullshit is just absurd. People aren't really playing the game how it's meant to be played, they're just taking advantage of a flaw. But that argument can be made for every FPS ever made.

When my buddies and I used to do 16-person lan parties for Halo: CE back in the day, the biggest deal was getting to be on the host box. If you had host box, you could properly lead headshots with the pistol/sniper and rack up kills like no other. Tiny intricacies like that are what make and break FPS.

The no-scope shit is what pisses me off the most. Especially when you watch yourself get killed by someone through the kill-cam and your murderer shoots you without even looking through the scope. It just reeks of balance issues as well as a developer that just doesn't take the time, either through a beta or playtesting or whatever to expose those flaws. But hey, gotta rush the game out.

Precisely. They're not even using the reticle, they simply flash the zoomed scope onto the player and fire, and for some reason there's an auto-aim or, as you said, a fucking flaw that says, "well I assume you got him, nice shot. Here's a new title and a ton of points."

Also, get the fucking perks balanced already, please. MW3 has some decent ones, but there's a secondary that makes you undetectable by UAV, thermal scopes, Heartbeat Sensors and Portable Radars. All other perks in that 'secondary' tier are worthless in comparison, and makes the counter-uav a total waste of a killstreak reward.
