A severe thunderstorm WATCH has been issued for our area until 7:00 pm tonight. The primary threat being hail to 2” in diameter, strong winds to 70mph and lightning. Nothing has popped up yet but the NWS says a storm could develop very quickly so keep your eyes open.

REMEMBER...A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH MEANS CONDITIONS ARE
FAVORABLE FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IN AND CLOSE TO THE WATCH
AREA. PERSONS IN THESE AREAS SHOULD BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR
THREATENING WEATHER CONDITIONS AND LISTEN FOR LATER STATEMENTS
AND POSSIBLE WARNINGS. SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS CAN AND OCCASIONALLY
DO PRODUCE TORNADOES.

Slappy is saying that Grundy is now in the area for possible twisters. He's moving in for the intercept (sadly I will not be shotgun. I'll be sitting here watching radar and waiting for the "your game is cancelled" call)

Had marble-sized hail and flooded streets in Evanston last night. It was scary (not as scary as spiders though).

Got some rain last night but didn't hear much else. I slept like a rock. My younger dog was hiding
under the bed this morning so maybe I missed something. She is a big chicken though.

They're gerbils.

Show them pictures of Richard Gere, and tell them, "home".

Also, they're gerbils...at least the don't piss on the couch like a Bernese Mountain Dog.

It feels like August down here. Been hot and we have had maybe a 1/2 inch of rain in the last month. Grass is burned already.

Renting a moonwalk for my kid's birthday that day. I think I'll pay the extra charge so I don't have to clean it...

HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM NOON CDT /1 PM EDT/ TO 8 PM CDT /9 PM EDT/ THURSDAY...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN CHICAGO HAS ISSUED A HEAT ADVISORY... WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM NOON CDT /1 PM EDT/ TO 8 PM CDT /9 PM EDT/ THURSDAY.

* TEMPERATURE... FORECAST HIGHS RANGE FROM 100 TO NEAR 105 DEGREES. MODERATE HUMIDITY LEVELS WILL KEEP PEAK HEAT INDEX READINGS IN THE 105 TO 110 DEGREE RANGE.

* IMPACTS... PROLONGED EXPOSURE TO THIS HEAT CAN BE DANGEROUS IF THE PROPER PRECAUTIONS ARE NOT TAKEN. SUNSTROKE... HEAT CRAMPS OR HEAT EXHAUSTION IS POSSIBLE WITH PROLONGED EXPOSURE AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

TAKE EXTRA PRECAUTIONS... IF YOU WORK OR SPEND TIME OUTSIDE. WHEN POSSIBLE... RESCHEDULE STRENUOUS ACTIVITIES TO EARLY MORNING OR EVENING. KNOW THE SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF HEAT EXHAUSTION AND HEAT STROKE. WEAR LIGHT WEIGHT AND LOOSE FITTING CLOTHING WHEN POSSIBLE AND DRINK PLENTY OF WATER.

TO REDUCE RISK DURING OUTDOOR WORK... THE OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDS SCHEDULING FREQUENT REST BREAKS IN SHADED OR AIR CONDITIONED ENVIRONMENTS. ANYONE OVERCOME BY HEAT SHOULD BE MOVED TO A COOL AND SHADED LOCATION. HEAT STROKE IS AN EMERGENCY... CALL 9 1 1.

A HEAT ADVISORY MEANS THAT A PERIOD OF HOT WEATHER IS EXPECTED. HIGH TEMPERATURES AND HIGH HUMIDITY WILL COMBINE TO CREATE A SITUATION IN WHICH HEAT ILLNESSES ARE POSSIBLE. DRINK PLENTY OF FLUIDS... STAY IN AN AIR-CONDITIONED ROOM... STAY OUT OF THE SUN... AND CHECK UP ON RELATIVES AND NEIGHBORS.

CHILDREN AND PETS SHOULD NEVER BE LEFT UNATTENDED IN VEHICLES UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. THIS IS ESPECIALLY TRUE DURING HOT WEATHER WHEN THE CAR INTERIOR CAN REACH LETHAL TEMPERATURES IN A MATTER OF MINUTES!
