Thornton. Ouch.

Man, Melton took Thornton apart in the postgame show. It was refreshing on a network owned by the teams and loaded with house men. I have seen Thornton with nasty stuff this season though. He was pretty strong until late this week. But he can't close ballgames. He's proven it time and time again. It seems the only people who don't realize that fact just happen to be the ones making important decisions for the White Sox.

I'm not sure why people consider that "bad announcing" unless they're blind. What the fuck is there to be said? That's exactly what I want as a Sox fan. Maybe some people would prefer Rongey on the broadcast telling everyone how it's not really that bad and Matt Thornton is one of the best closers in the game and citing some numbers to back it up. For me, the silence is golden. No need to say anything. I can watch Peralta fist pump his way around the bases. Do you require Hawk to explain what just occurred? I don't.

As a non-Sox fan (and not a Sox-hater) I think Hawk's homerism as a broadcaster is a good thing, but it's kind of embarrassing when he pouts like that.

There's gotta be at least the slightest inkling of objectivity, or at least an attempt at showing some insight to the game itself. It took over a minute before Stone finally stepped in an began breaking it down while Hawk reveled in being butthurt.

Why does there have to be objectivity? We're talking about a guy who calls the opponent "bad guys". How did Stone "break down" a game-winning homer? It was obvious what occurred. I don't know what you could say about it.

There are lots of things to criticize Hawk about, but the long pauses during the broadcast are not among them. I don't think the fan really needs incessant chatter. Sometimes the game speaks for itself. I know Hawk felt exactly the way I felt when Peralta hit that ball. I didn't need him to tell me what happened. I can't imagine anyone did.
