Humber has been 'orrible since the no-no perfecto. Didn't Buerhle also blow goat for a few weeks after his perfecto?
Looking back on history... pitchers seem to struggle after the perfecto, except for Len Barker, who threw a complete game after his. But yeah, generally, pitchers struggle with the next game. Interesting ain't it.

The Paul Michael Glaser-looking Chuck Garfien from Comcast SportsNet mentioned this 2 starts ago when the Red Sox beat up Philip Humber like a cheap suit for 9 runs. Garfien noted that right after Mark Buehrle threw a perfect game in 2009 vs. the Rays, the lefty went 2-7 after his date with perfection. Might the same thing happen now with Philip Humber? It's not looking good since Humber's perfect game in Seattle.

I thought Buehrle lead off his next start with 6 perfect innings, right? I might be misremembering...

It was even longer than that for Buerhle. He threw it in July of '09 and I don't believe he had another quality start for the rest of the season.

It's the mixed metaphor you used, SHARK. It really didn't make a lot of sense.

But it's okay. Jesse Rogers did that a lot as well.

You're misremembering, which is to say, you're not remembering.

MINNEAPOLIS — Chicago White Sox ace Mark Buehrle set a major league record by retiring 45 straight batters.
Coming off a perfect game in his last start against Tampa Bay, Buehrle retired the first 17 Minnesota Twins batters on Tuesday night to surpass the record of 41 straight set by and San Francisco's Jim Barr in 1972 and tied by teammate Bobby Jenks, a reliever, in 2007.
Buehrle retired 27 in a row against the Rays in his last start, the 18th perfect game in baseball history, then breezed through the first five innings against the Twins to break the record.
His bid for a second consecutive perfect game – no pitcher in baseball history has ever achieved the feat – ended with a walk to Alexi Casilla on a close call with two outs in the sixth. The Metrodome crowd stood and cheered after the walk, trying to rattle Buehrle. Then Denard Span followed with a single to break up the no-hitter.

No, he's not misremembering. Buerhle set the record for consecutive batters retired. He took a prefecto into the 5th or 6th at the Metrodome. And then the wheels fell out and he couldn't get anybody out until 2010.

I do remember that. It was, I believe,49 in a row retired by Mark Buehrle.

Here's a quick rundown. Kind of neat.

Im going to go with maybe Humber just isn't that good of a pitcher in general.

With a little Chip Caray thrown in there.
I believe that's the call (or part of the call) that cost him his TBS job, yeah?

As for the here & now, this Jose Quintana's done a pretty good job this afternoon in relief of Phil Humber.

How bad has Humber been since his perfect game in Seattle? The Trib's Mark Gonzales, who I also follow on Twitter @MDGonzales, has these unhappy totals for Philip:

13 2/3 Innings, 21 Hits, 20 Runs & 5 HR's
