I see some parallels to the 1997 White Sox. That was another mediocre team with a few working pieces that wasn't good enough to win a mediocre division.

This year's team has four valuable pieces that are all producing and can all be moved for prospects, seeing as how this team has no future due to having no farm system. Dunn, Konerko, Peavy, and A.J. need to be traded ASAP. That is the only way that this team will have any semblance of a future down the line.

A tad bit early, IMO.

Let it play out a little.

Won't be done. That would be surrender and Kenny Williams never surrenders. This team will be a buyer at the All-Star break.

I'm not watching at all.

I just think it's funny that you've moved on to declaring another Chicago team dead.

In early-MAY.

I don't think they can risk it with Peavy and Rios. Get what you can while they are still working.

Quite the contrary. I just don't like it when the teams I love are horrible.

I suppose I can see in the case of Peavy where it looks like his arm will explode at any moment.

Besides Konerko, would any team give up anything significant to get A.J., Dunn, or Peavy?

I doubt it.

If the White Sox fall out of contention, I'm convinced they can get something of value for Paul Konerko, A.J. Pierzynski & Gavin Floyd. Those are the three veteran White Sox that I believe they can get prospects and Major League ready guys who can help this team right now. I don't think such moves are a reality at this time though.

Kid, the smart move is to wait until the All Star break, unless a king's ransom is offered for one of those players.

Here is why you wait; Starting Friday, the Sox play 32 home games and just 21 road games and 3 of those are at Wrigley Field. So out of 53 games, just 18 are played outside of Chicago. Also of those 53 games, just 21 are against teams with a record of .500 or better (W-L record as of today).

If they aren't within a couple of games if 1st Place at that point, you start moving guys.

You missed Thornton who you could probably sell immediately for a good haul. Here is who I see as trade bait in their order of tradability

1. Thornton- last year of a reasonable contract and is a great lefty reliever who can close a little. There are a lot of teams hurting for late relief including the big fish Yankees
2. Peavy- last year of a contract and is pitching like a Cy Young candidate. The contract is big and there is a 4+ million buyout for next year so while he can go to either league, it will have to be a big market.
3. Floyd- last year of a reasonable contract. Pitching great. He goes through streaks of being unhittable.
4. Ohman- last year of a reasonable contract. He is a good situational lefty for a smart manager.
5. AJ- last year of a contract. Solid lefthanded catcher but they probably wouldn't get much in return
6. Dunn- 2nd of 4 year at 14 per. The contract really is market rate if he keeps up his usual numbers. He has shown himself capable of playing the field which adds to his tradability. Still, the market would be limited and most likely only sought by AL teams.
7. Paulie- 1 more year at 13 I believe. He will never ask for the trade but if the team tanks and is looking to deconstuct, moving him to a west coast contender would be the honorable thing to do. The Dodgers have money again.

If the White Sox make a move, I think one is forthcoming with either Matt Thornton or Will Ohman, especially with the head-scratching news late Friday afternoon of Chris Sale as this team's closer.

Yes. There is very little risk with Peavy in the last year of a contract. The move won't be made for another 1-2 months which means you are taking a 3 month risk to get a top of the rotation starter. They'll get a nice, MLB read prospect at a minimum for him (although KW sucks).

AJ won't bring anything but what would you expect.

The White Sox CAN get something in return for Anthony John. Book it.

I wish the Cubs had enough to give up for a catcher that can't throw anybody out.

SHARK, slow your roll here. The Sox would get more for Peavy and Konerko than they would AJ. The best they could hope for AJ would be a double A prospect and for the team who takes him to pay the rest of his salary.

if you mean a quality player in A ball or a peripheral AAA player, yes

We think to highly of AJ. He really isn't all that great of an offensive catcher and his defense is below average. He has skills, including being a lefthanded contact hitter. Teams would want him, they just won't want to pay for him. Salary relief would be sufficient.

I think the White Sox would have to pick up a big chunk of their contracts if it came to fruition, Frank. In Konerko & Pierzynski's cases, I think they could also reject any potential trade because of their 10/5 contract status.

I trust that Kenny will get the best possible returns if he decides to sell-off the veterans. He has proven again and again to be an excellent evaluator of minor league talent.

3 Losses at home to Boston, who is 5 games below .500 with 11 total wins?

I thought every AL Central team was under .500 at home, including the division-leading Indians.
