I don't ever recall being able to take snack breaks when I was in 5th-8th grade softball....water, yeah, but what's with all the snacking? Eat some before then after game....quite simple.

By the way, was I just totally out of the loop and deprived, but I don't seem to recall T-Ball being around when I was a kid. I'm talking 1976-1982 ish.

Most of the boys on my sons team can't remember who they follow in the order that day, but they all know whose turn it is to bring the snack next game. And the first question they all ask when they show up to each game?

"What did Johnny bring for snack?"

Drinks maybe. When I played softball every once in awhile we'd get Jewel pop. Now it's 100% organic juice or some shit only. We never got snacks, what is the freaking obsession with snacks? It's stupid, then some complain the snack isn't healthy, I got news they aren't going to eat freaking fruit!

At what point do parents become morons?

I've got a couple friends with kids, and they all seem fine. Why not tell these over-bearing parents to pound sand?

Eh, no organics or healthy stuff in my son's league. Then again I can't afford to play in the Naperville leagues like some people.

When I was a kid, we got orange slices. That's it. Every week was a different kids turn to bring the oranges. Yay.

Yeah, some 5 year olds are not into it. I can see where BigFan is coming from. The day of our first game (parade before hand) 8 of the 12 kids asked me when T ball was over (granted it was a three hour day for them at this point)


I do think my daughter is learning a little bit about responsibility. One day she told me she didnt feel like going to practice. I asked her if she liked playing in the games. She said yeah, but today she wanted to play with her cousin. I explained that when you commit to something you have to see it thru and everything. I think she got that once you join something, you have to finish and do it all the way.



With snacks we have juice and one snack AFTER the game. Never during. We use it in a carrot dangling way.


Although with this new Peanut allergy taking over, im not sure any food sharing is a good idea

My kids will be working on a farm rather than playing t-ball. Now that will teach them responsibility.

i personally never have trouble with the t-ball parents interfering with what goes on at practice or during games. its the 9-10 level where mommy and daddy think that little johnny's development is being held back. those years are tough because the kids start pitching and your kid can start getting down on themselves either because they walk everyone or because the strike out all the time. once you get through that league and your kid is still playing, i think it gets easier.

They aren't getting through a 12 hour shift without a few cups of coffee.

In a completely unrelated note, I was on vacation last week and a man came up to me and asked if I was 420 friendly. I responded no. He then informed me that he was my 420 guy and that I knew where to find him. Unfortunately, he was walking so he's probably tough to find. I guess he didn't read my posts here.

The whole activity of T-Ball and Little League just seems ridiculous from some of the stories people are sharing. Snack time? What happened to the coach just showing up with a large water cooler and some plastic cups? It's healthy, and nobody is allergic to water. Ask your Mom or Dad to take you for a snack after the game...

Hockey and soccer have the snacks too. I don't think basketball does.

In little league every kid got a free slice of pizza and a pop after the game. AFTER the game though.

That was the only time all week I thought of this board. About 50 feet up the road, was someone selling alcohol in milk jugs called "Sky Juice" which was condensed milk, rum, coconut juice, and a ton of rum. I actually considered that moral choice but ultimately the thought that these milk jugs may have come from the trash was enough for me to go back without it. The cab driver did recommend it though and who can't trust a cabbie?

One way to control parents is to give them a stake in the team. 1st and 3rd base coaches, scorebook keeper, warming up pitchers the next inning, helping on deck hitters with practice swings...you could involve half a dozen parents in activities each game. It shuts them up. It helps them appreciate what your work. It literally makes them a part of the team, cheering for the players they are helping rather than an individual cheering for their kid.

Good one, but one of them is at a teaching age and one is an adult who made a decision.

And if you remember, my stance was not that her ditching the game was a good move. I just said its not that big of deal. Its not.

Similiarly, if my daughter missed practice, it wouldnt have been a big deal. It wouldnt be her finest moment, but I dont think it would lead to a life long span of irresponsibility. Kids make irresponsible choices. Its not that big of a deal. And when people make it a big deal, they look silly.

Its youth/school sports...not that important.

I have offered up score keeper many times. No takers.

Have 2 dads that could help out if needed, the others are useless. One has a great camera though and sends pics each game to everyone.
