Hopefully there aren't any styrofoam elephants around.

Ranger thinks the Sale move is permanent.

Well, that worked out okay. I was motherfucking Robin for taking out our best hitter when this thing might go sixteen innings and we don't have much offense to begin with. No way Konerko was scoring even with those dopes kicking it all over the outfield.

And there's one more! We need about five or six to make it Thornton-proof.

Finally something good happens when Lillibridge pinch runs for Konerko late. It feels like the only outcome that move brings is Lillibridge getting picked off or stranded on the bases effectively taking the bat out of Konerko's hands for the rest of the game. It's happened this year, and I remember an extra inning game against the O's (I think) that had Teahan and Pierzynski homer when they were both the potential final out. I think there were like 3 comebacks late in that game and Lillibridge was the winning round on second. They caught him not paying attention after straying away from second and picked him off while he was standing ten feet from the bag. I think Santos blew a save there too after being brought in at the bottom of the eighth. That was my biggest qualm with Ozzie- mismanaging late inning relief. Bringing in the closer at a time other than at the start of the ninth with a lead. In that particular instance, he got out of the eighth but blew it in the ninth. Robin is light years worse than Guillen was in that respect.

Well. That is about as unusual of a White Sox winner I've see in a long time.

Travis Hafner's wife apparently found the recipe for whatever it was she was mixing into his feed a few years ago. Scary guy when Sox pitching pitches to him lately. Dodged a bullet there.

Not really. The tying run was on deck, so even a HR there and the Sox still have the lead.

"@JakePeavy_44: So nice to see young closer @areed38 come in do his job & after striking out last guy have class & act like a pro! #grewupinSDwatchinHoffy"

Peavy calls Reed the closer but Ventura won't.

Oy.

So is Sale now a set up guy?

It seems so simple. You got a lefty with real good stuff and is made for the rotation. Leave him along and let him pitch. Why fuck with him?

I guess Sale is now Sean Marshall. :|

It's criminal what they're doing with this kid. Is he hurt or not? If he's hurt, why is he pitching? If he isn't, why isn't he starting? Or are they preparing to deal Thornton to the Yankees in return for a Z level prospect?

Read Ranger's Timeline.

You may want to smash something.

I just read it. He seems to put a lot of trust in an organization that fired the greatest manager in baseball history, moved Carlton Fisk to left field, hired Terry Bevington, gave away Swisher and Vazquez for nothing, and almost destroyed baseball by throwing a World Series.

White Sox relief pitching is like a dam. It springs a leak that compromises the integrity of the structure and often leads to the entire dam failing. The Indians had an obscene amount of wins last year because of an eighth ninth or inning rally. Combine that with a young inexperienced pen that struggles to overcome mistakes and quickly unravels if there are a mistakes.

Yes. He put him out in left. And then he traded half the team for Wayne Tolleson. But Hawk wasn't stupid. He knew more than the fans did.

That was 1986 when Ken Harrelson was generally managing this White Sox team, guys. Needless to say, that Carlton Fisk in LF experiment failed miserably and so did Harrelson's stint as GM.

The lineup is in for the finale with the Indians. These are the guys who'll deal with Cleveland's Jeanmar Gomez, complete with the players' batting average right next to it:

30 Alejandro De Aza CF (L) .277
15 Gordon Beckham 2B (R) .220
32 Adam Dunn DH (L) .241
14 Paul Konerko 1B (R) .345
12 A.J. Pierzynski C (L) .276
51 Alex Rios RF (R) .294
10 Alexei Ramirez SS (R) .192
24 Dayan Viciedo LF (R) .213
22 Brent Morel 3B (R) .172

Jake Peavy does the chucking as the White Sox start the night 4 games behind the Indians in the AL Central.

Not really sure why Peavy is still in this game.

Robin bet that he would be on the DL before June 1

Up 8-0, I don't think even Peavy would mind being out of this game with something left in the tank.

You've got to get seven innings out of him if you can, Frank. Keep the bullpen in good order. The kid that pitched for Cleveland did a nice job of giving his team 6-2/3 after getting his brains beaten in. If he comes out in the fourth, you're really leaning on the pen. That's the kind of stuff that makes the difference between at least a few wins and losses by the end of the season.
