Coaching is part of it, but it doesn't change the fact that the team's only got 1/3rd of what made it a championship team in 10. You can't replace cohesive versatile talent with old low-salary fringe talent and undeveloped youth and expect to win a cup.

Ummm, maybe by only quoting the very last sentence without the previous setup???

Again, he is not progressing. He is coming off his worst season, which directly followed his previous worst season, which directly followed his best season. Not what I would call a positive trend for a #1 overall draft pick with five seasons under his belt entering what should be the start of the prime of his career.

I believe that he is trying to do more than he needs to, and to think more than he needs to. Good playmaker? Yes. One of the best playmakers in the league? The last two seasons, not even the best on his team. I have an issue when he constantly leads the charge, bringing the puck over the blue line, and continuously trying to force his way to the net when he just doesn't have the physical size or strength to do he - he is constantlygetting knocked off the puck by the first awaiting defender, or trying to make that one last pass when he should be taking the damn shot.

Does that all mean that I dislike having him on the team? Of course not, and again, I'm not clamoring to trade him, although between he, Sharp, and maybe Hossa have the biggest value on the market (Toews ain't going anywhere unless the concussions take their toll). I just wish that he would develop into the star that he should be. He is very good now, but with a little teaking, could be one of the best in the league, and I'm talking top-20 scorer.

I responded to the sentence that I wanted to respond to. Once again, did I in anyway misrepresent your thoughts? I don't think so.

As to your new comments, I left the whole text in because every sentence you wrote is more idiotic than the one before it.

kane not the best playmaker on the team??? LOL, then who is? Name one player that is even in the same league as Kane in that regard.

Kane tries to bully through defenders and loses the puck to the first defender??? Might be the dumbest comment I've ever read about the Hawks.

I'm not even gonna bother responding in depth anymore to you, you're too stupid and way beneath my station in regards to hockey knowledge.

Agreed, but still not sure what that has to do with the PP.

That old low-salary fringe talent and undeveloped youth allow for zero versatility on the power play. Just because a guy like Bollig is big doesn't mean you can just plant him in front of the net and say, "you're screening the goalie, so we'll now score more goals." Same went for Scott. Things like goalie screening are excellent in theory but you can't cobble together a roster and expect them to equate PP success simply because the the top of the roster is the same.

I agree that to a point coaching is involved, especially when it comes to the strategy of the power play. The team could barely get the puck across the blue line to establish a possession, and when they did they never did enough to create lanes, they'd just tick-tack the puck around until finally somebody would take a woeful shot from the point.

That being said, I think if the roster fills out with non-bums/filler the power play will improve by de facto.

Yup, sure is.

Also shows that he must have been watching the last two seasons of hockey through his ass while trying to lick Kane's taint.

And yet precisely this was said to Tomas Holmstrom.

So Haviland ends up taking a sizable demotion, settling for an assistant job with Norfolk (Tampa's affiliate). This is really not a good development for the Jon McCubMcPimpMcSuck haterzzz; if Good Longtime Hockey Guy Mike Haviland were so great, surely he'd have picked up one of several head-coaching or assistant-coaching vacancies at the NHL level, n'est-ce pas?

It's definitely a sign that his value was overstated.

Or...

Maybe it's a conspiracy whereby Scotty Bowman has reached out to every other team in the league NOT to hire Mikey H. so that the Hawks don't look bad for letting him go.

Hmmmm...

I don't believe this at all. Just procrastinating, as I have other things I should be doing.

If the Blackhawks had reached out to the rest of the league to help them save face, Doug Wilson would've hired Haviland just to spite them.
