Not really sure why Peavy is still in this game.

You've got to get seven innings out of him if you can, Frank. Keep the bullpen in good order. The kid that pitched for Cleveland did a nice job of giving his team 6-2/3 after getting his brains beaten in. If he comes out in the fourth, you're really leaning on the pen. That's the kind of stuff that makes the difference between at least a few wins and losses by the end of the season.

True, but isn't it pretty concerning that Peavy has now went 5 straight games of 100 or more pitches with 2 games of 9 innings. Isn't that pushing things a bit with a guy who has such an injury history? Wouldn't it be prudent in a game such as tonights to give him an extra inning off?

I'd tend to consider that more if he wasn't gone next year. You haven't gotten your money's worth from this guy and you're not going to. You've got to squeeze him and hope Hermie can keep him in one piece. One thing Coop said that's absolutely true is that no one keeps their pitchers healthier overall than the White Sox.

I agree you got to try and get everything out of him you can this year, but don't you have a better chance of doing that for a full year if you give him a little extra rest now?

Maybe. But I don't want to see Thornton or Santiago either. 8-1 can become 8-6 with the tying run on deck real quick.

Peavy went 6 shutout innings, and got hit hard in the 7th. If the bullpen can't hold an 7 or 8 run lead for 9 outs, there are bigger problems than Sale's MRI.

Peavy will get an extra day of rest before his next start (off day today), go on regular rest, and then get another extra day off before his start after that-- off day 5/21. The Sox also have off days on 5-31 and 6-4 and 6-11
