I think all they need to do is call up Kyle Beach so he can score his 30+ goals next year. That would solve a lot of problems.

Holy Christ you have a lot of things going on there, just on the defense alone... damn, dreaming big huh? 8)

Working on one currently that adds Derek Roy 8)

8) That's some good work right there! Keep it up!

ah memories... that seems like just yesterday...

The good news dan is that you've had so many good hockey thoughts over the years that the one really bad one you've had stands out; me on the other hand, my hockey thoughts usually suck so they just kind of end up meshing together

Wrong, but thanks for playing.

I've retired the awesomeness of Swearengen since it had a forebearer. It's time for "Deal with it" Kane.

Oh, Kyle Beach. Could've been a better Jimmy Hayes. Can we get ready to call him Tallon's worst first round bust yet? Though somehow I feel like failing to make the NHL still isn't as bad as being Cam Barker.

I wouldn't venture so far as to entirely dismiss Beach as a failure just yet. He simply can't stay healthy enough to develop, and when he is healthy he doesn't make the most of his opportunities. I think he'll get one more season to do anything, but if the team gets the right offer he could be a nice addition to a trade package since he still does have some shred of potential.

Fun thought.

http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog/John-Jae ... /128/44572

But why Chicago? Well, here’s why:

1) I’m told—and others have echoed this as well— that geography, particularly proximity to Suter’s family in Madison, WI will play into his decision. If it does, then that supports bids by Minnesota and Chicago, both driveable distances from Madison. And no NHL arena is closer to Mad-Town than the United Center.

2) Suter’s entire family and Suter himself grew up as fans of . . . the Chicago Blackhawks. In fact, while Suter was a young boy, his uncle Gary played for a number of strong Blackhawk teams, and the family maintains positive ties with the organization.

3) A number of sources are saying Suter is number one on the Blackhawks’ list this summer. And the team is also in need of a big splash. When they are, they are usually willing to overspend to get their guy. Point being, the Blackhawks will likely not be outspent. Need proof? See: Campbell, B., summer 2008. And if it comes down to Minnesota and Chicago, the Hawks will actually have more money available through existing cap room and expiring contracts.

4) Finally, the agent always has a big say. And Chicago is the largest of all the markets we’ve discussed, with—unlike Detroit—a young, talented core in place and big time, national endorsement opportunities.

Further, Suter’s agent, Neil Sheehy, has one client already with the Blackhawks. And that player is . . . Nick Leddy, a favorite of GM Stan Bowman, and a player viewed by many as a young Phil Housley or Brian Campbell. Coincidentally, Leddy might well be a regular partner for Suter. The notion of career growth synergies for both players has to have crossed Sheehy’s mind.

So while I believe Suter will weigh his options, including the fact that a good friend of his plays for Minnesota and other interesting lures elsewhere, I also think once he does—and the Blackhawks make the expected strong move to sign him—he might every well end up a Blackhawk.

Detroit has at least $16 million to spend this summer and a Lidstrom-sized hole to fill. The only way the Red Wings don't get him is if the Flyers do. I'd love to have Suter here, but it's a longshot.

I think Suter's a bit overrated at the salary he's going to command this summer. Someone's going to pay him 7+ and I think that's a big overpayment.

He's good, but his partner in Nashville is much better imo.

It would be nice to have Suter, but all we really need are 2-3 players in the ilk of a Seidenberg or Jackman type to shore up our D. And we need to spend up front too. I'd rather bring in two $4 mil type big bruising physical d-men and spend money on another top sixer up front.

If Suter gets $7M+, no thank you.

I would be stunned if he got that much.

Barret is a guy that would definitely improve our D significantly. He's a real cocksucker which we could use on top 6

Jackman is a guy I would feel dirty about liking. I didn't even feel dirty about Carcillo. He's that much of a shitpuke. Yes, that's correct. Barret Jackman is vomited shit.

I wonder how much Jason Garrison would set us back. Kind of a poor man's Shea Weber with the monstrous shot from the the point, had a good season with Brian Campbell down in Miami-ish. He's probably looking at 30 over 5 or 6, and the Panthers are having money problems despite (or maybe because of) the big idiot's rampant spending. But then again do we even want any more Panthers? If we can't get him, I'd love to see the Oilers get him, who I heard had expressed serious interest. They start getting some fully-formed defensemen to counterbalance their speedy scorers and watch out.

For the millionth time, it seems, we need an actual center. Kane is not a center. Sharp is not a center. They even tried to tell us Frolik was a center. We have Toews, Bolland who can't win faceoffs or be a #2, and Kruger who makes Andrew Shaw look like Zdeno Chara. Inexplicable to be this shallow at such a key position. Trade if you have to but no more bullshit please. Or have Kruger hit the gym every day between now and Labor Day in hopes that he'll stop being such a fucking flyweight.

I take that back. I just looked up defenseman salaries for this current season. The list of D-men making $7M+ is crazy.

James Wisniewski made $7M this year.

Seriously, let that sink in.

Ehrhoff made $12M.

Wisniewski got $7MM because Columbus has to vastly overpay anyone to live and work in Columbus. The Hawks shouldn't have that problem, though I have noticed they pay people quite a bit over market value for a team and city that are supposed to be a destination...

I was really disappointed to hear Stan's comments about Kane being a viable center option. Hopefully he was just trying to boost his confidence then sharing his honest thoughts.

It would take me a while to like Jackman. He's cuntery goes so deep.

Although he would pair nicely with Suter 8)

Keith/Seabs
Suter/Jackman
Leddy/Olsen

Yep, there isn't a non Canuck in the league I hate more than Jackman. I don't want him anywhere near this team. He isn't good enough to warrant looking past his history. He's no Dennis Rodman.

The D could use a guy with an edge though... When O'Donnell is the nastiest guy back there, you have a problem...

Montador could play with an edge, but he's probably going to be LTIRed forever.

How would we feel about Matt Carle from the Flyers? He was the lesser half of the Coburn-Carle pairing, but he could be a better #4 than Hjalmarsson.

If we're not reluctant to give the team a little Canuck stank, then Shane O'Brien could be a #6. Plays with an edge, but always runs himself out of town for being an ass. Keeps costs low, at least.

He was in the Dan Boyle trade, I think, which seemed like a good idea at the time. That Sharks team is old now, though.

Speaking of old, Hawks just gave Jamal Mayers one more year at $600,000. I'm quite happy with this move. Mayers ran out of gas at the end of the year, which you kind of had to expect, but he was a reliable, useful presence for most of the season. With him being another year older in a career with some hard miles, Quenneville might be wise to cut him back to maybe 60 games a year and cycle in a 13th forward and featured AHLers for the remaining games. We don't want to relive Sean O'Donnell if we can help it. I still think he can give us 15 to 20 points, center duties in a pinch, and the ever-valuable Veteran Leadership, which is a nice package for close to the league minimum.

Wow, the facebook world does not like this or the Mayers resigning... I don't get it, I thought both of those were the right moves to make, both played well, and with as much as you gave up for Oduya, you kind of had to resign him...

Because they were horrid in the playoffs despite being pretty good before that, and memories are short. Who wasn't horrid in the playoffs, though.

Not sure what I think of the Oduya signing yet. He's a good defenseman, but I'm not sure if he's the kind of defenseman we need if the league is going to keep slouching toward Good Hard Team Physicality or whatever it is we're euphemistically calling shitty hockey this year. We need a big stay-at-home lumbering ogre at defense. It was gracious of Oduya to take a pay cut (or at least a front-loaded contract) to stay with us, but it was a safe signing, and I'm guessing that we're going to see a lot of those this summer with the uncertainty of whether there will be a season in October.

So with Montador probably banished to the land of wind and ghosts, we have one more spot to fill at defense. I guess you could hope that Olsen will become that lumbering defenseman we need.

You're not a Hawks fan, why would you get it? That would require actually watching Hawks games.

Anyone who doesn't understand why Oduya is a bad signing is either hockey retarded or didn't watch any Hawks playoff games this year.
