JORR, can you rank the North Shore communities by prestige? First, let me try:

Lake Forest
Kenilworth
Wilmette
Winnetka
Highland Park
Evanston (the good part)
Glencoe
Deerfield
Riverwoods
Northfield
Lake Bluff
Northbrook
Glenview
Evanston (the bad part)
Mokena
Kansas City, Kansas
The Moon
Parts Unknown
Highwood

Well, I think it probably depends on if you're Jewish or not, but I'd rank them like this:

Kenilworth
Lake Forest
Highland Park
Winnetka
Glencoe
Wilmette
North Evanston
Lake Bluff
Highwood
South Evanston

Those others aren't on any shore so I don't consider them. Glenview is more like Park Ridge than the North Shore. Deerfield is a step up from Buffalo Grove.

Aw. My dad's family is from Northbrook. I don't want to lose "my family grew up on the North Shore," shore distance notwithstanding, fact-that-it's-virtually-indistinguishable-from-Wheeling notwithstanding.

Let's face it, sports radio contributes absolutely nothing worthwhile to society. He's not helping anyone or defending the rights of the meek. If anything, he contributes negatively to society by pissing people off on a daily basis. That's why Dan feels the need to go beyond sports when he shoves CTE/head injuries or the Sandusky case down our ears. He wants to appear to be an investigative journalist with integrity.

many people choose those professions because they pay well...not to help people...and berns is being paid well..probably around 200k a year.

You don't think there is societal value in entertainment?

Whether there is or not, there is societal value in all the charity work he does. I don't exactly think he fills his family with shame.

It's not the shame the family feels. It's the headaches.

I understand that Dan's dad is an attorney of considerable repute, but I don't think Deerfield is "money" the way, say, Lake Forest or Highland Park or Winnetka is. It's obviously a very pleasant, affluent suburb, and I'm sure the public schools are great, but a mere mention of its name doesn't elicit hushed gasps and conjure up visions of brick mansions while Pachelbel's Canon plays. It's Northbrook with lower sales taxes, really.

I mean, unless "comes from money in the north burbs" is a euphemism for "he's Jewish," in which case yes, he is, but that's not germane.

Well, maybe I'm speaking out of my proverbial ass about Deerfield then. You have to understand a guy like me who has only lived in Oak Lawn, Chicago Ridge, Champaign-Urbana, the South Loop and Mount Greenwood in the city thinks a place like Deerfield is affluent. Dan being a Hebrew is irrelevant, unless we are speaking of his Theo Epstein envy.

I think there is value to entertainment. And when I find the show entertaining I will keep the station on the dial. But we can't equate an antagonistic sports radio host to a pediatric surgeon or a human rights lawyer. Those are extreme examples but talk radio is carnival barking. It's "let me make you listen so you can hear the advertisements."

Everything is noise between advertisements.
