Great post. All they're focusing on is LeBron purely as a basketball talent - size, ability, potential, but being selective about which arguments they'll field over his faults. Unfortunately for them the major fault LeBron has that will forever keep him out of "...of all time" lists is the lack of desire to be the man. If the ball's in LeBron's hands with 10 seconds left and he had the choice of taking the last shot or passing to Wade, he's passing to Wade ten times out of ten. That lack of killer instinct and subconscious desire to play second fiddle is going to tarnish whatever legacy he leaves behind.

Those are things that would be considered "intangibles" you can't put them in a computer simulation, Fangraphs or projections.

Hence the lack of words about them. If it continues it will be LeBrons ultimate failure and his legacy....just another guy with all-universe talent that couldn't go the distance.

They'll wait. Berns has been dutifully deferential to Jason on basketball thoughts with Boers out.

Now time for pointless medical banter, or the "Dan Bernstein Newfound Medical Terminology" segment.

There's no such thing. A baseball manager is damn near irrelevant.

He will be sitting next to Dominique Wilkins getting a $5 handy-andy from the chubby chick with the c-section scar at Jimmy's Restaurant.

I'd just like them to do something fresh for a change. Is the show a "more intelligent brand of sports talk" or is it just meandering stupidity? I hate when they stay on the fence. Field some damn calls or something.

That's not really a Beardown path because the above by Dewskie really was the entire show today and a lot of other days as well.

If he was to really walk down that dark and tumultuous path it would look a lot different.

And Dewskie, for real, I agree with you. Time to change direction or at least pick a lane. If you want to be a "high brow" sports talk show then be one, if you want to resort to the above then do so. Don't tell me you're part of some super-intellectual ivy-league sports show and then go ahead and break bad on Larry Bird so you can get these supposed "angry white people" to call in who don't exist.

It is getting close to being Mike Nort' with better grammar.

If Dan retired the Tebow impression while Goff was simultaneously forced to resign from ever using dameneh again, the world would be a better place.

It devolved into that a long time ago. The examples you and Dewskie just gave and the ones people give on an almost daily basis are proof of that. For a show that claims to foster intelligent discourse it actively sets out to do the exact opposite.

I'm sure they're both raking it in and are perfectly content to leave it on autopilot until ratings and/or advertisers tell them otherwise. They won't "fix" what, according to the ratings, isn't broken.

Obviously it's not news, and I'm not saying the show is bad at all, it's just not as good without focus. The Sandusky stuff was some of the best I've ever heard on this show, but I think that has sent Berns off into this random side direction where he needs to just keep digging and digging into the very limits of sports-transcending material to the point where it's just trivial now.

With Goff here now they've simply been talking too much. They've fielded maybe 2 calls in 3 hours.

It was Charles that stood up for LeBron, Shaq actually made some sense. Sometimes you gotta just disregard the play and step up. LeBron doesn't want to do that.

I realize that but at the end Shaq's point validated Barkley's point which is when fanboys Bernstein and Goff hopped aboard the "Shaq ain't so bad" train.

They've got a good thing going -- well, good for them, maybe -- where they're whatever they say they are until they aren't. It's an intelligent show unless they don't want it to be. They will not suffer fools who dare to dissent with their years of basketball wisdom but then again Avery Johnson did win a championship so they're idiots. Dan has thoughts on the entire world of sports until you ask him who he thinks will win a game at which point oh my God why do you even care. Jason's the NBA insider until come on guys you know he never said he was an NBA insider. It must be nice to dictate all the terms of your private radio reality.

I appreciate aspects of the show's premise: non-meatball catering, dismissing idiots, touching on those subjects that go beyond sports, and also the random hilarity, inside humor, and running gags. Yet they're getting more and more dismissive of callers each show. They take so few of them in comparison to other hosts that it feels like they've given up on the very Chicago Stupid that made them big. Making fun of idiots is what works for them, so take more calls from idiots.

At the same token don't intentionally have Jason and Matt screen calls that aren't imbeciles. Bah, I dunno. It's hard to give an accurate prescription of why I've slightly soured on B & B when there's still glimmers of why I keep listening.

I attempted to make two posts criticizing the show and citing much of what has been posted here. PTFB came early in taking Kaner to task, the reliance upon anonymous marginal sources, Deadspin, and the limited anecdotal past of Jason Goff. Far more weak mileage than the story is worth.

The show could and should be better but they want it both ways and don't want to pick a lane. There is no question as to the talent of LBJ but he fails the litmus tests presented to most every other athlete they denigrate. As posted above, they can speak with certainty as to who should lose and why but can't/won't pick a winner.

The essence of front-running meatball bastards.
