Then it's settled: We all throw our support behind Spmack's girlfriend, Tyra or Sally Jesse or whatever...

It's not just the fiasco involving Maya Gavin that has me feeling skiddish. It's not related to this "SCORE Search", but I had an awful experience when I was unemployed many years ago that was an absolute punch to the stomach.

I applied for a mailroom position with Pitney Bowes at a downtown Loop office building many years ago that I felt I was qualified. I had an interview and everything, but after a couple weeks, I got a rejection letter from Pitney Bowes that stated that I "wasn't qualified". That letter, you see, was a punch to the stomach.

The point I'm trying to make is that there's no question that I could talk Chicago sports on a 50,000 watt AM sports talk outlet that's also the flagship of the Chicago White Sox Radio Network. It's far from a certainty that I'd even get interviewed by SCORE management, let alone make the Final 4 on July 21st during a live SCORE broadcast. I don't have a real good feeling I can win this coveted position, especially if so many others audition themselves and one of them ends up getting the job instead.

Sorry to hear about that situation SHARK. We've all been there at some point or another.

It's cool, SHARK. We've all been rejected from jobs we've really wanted. Hell, I can't seem to get an interview nowadays, but luckily, I still have a job...albeit one that I hate with a passion.

Don't feel bad, SHARK. There was this girl that I really liked a few years ago, and in so many words, she told me I wasn't qualified. It stung at the time, but I got over it.

You can get over this too, SHARK.

Interesting point firefox. Whomever wins is destined to be on the Laurence Holmes "tree". The ultimate catch 22. We won but we lost.

Pretty sure I have you beat in that department. You're tall and dark. Women like that. I don't have many qualities that make me visually stand out.

Unless your names are Joe Ostrowski, Chris Tannehill, Herb Lawrence, update guy David Schuster, and/or update guy/original "SCORE Search" winner Connor McKnight, you've got to earn a spot on Laurence's "A Team", Firefox. Honest!

We could probably compare stories.....that would be a great thread...."Tales of Rejection".

You remember the chick I met at the Double Door when you performed with pA? I was trying hard to get at her for a while, and once I realized she unfriended on FB I figured I should probably move on.

I think you could do it too, SHARK, and I believe you should try. You may fail but I believe you'll enjoy the attempt. And, worst case, you have a story to tell us all on how it went.

SHARK

A very wise puppet once said this:

Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.

Like Dr Ken said, at the very least, you would be able to enjoy the start of the experience.

Worst case scenario, you go audition at a B-Dubs, eat some wings, drink some Bud Lights, and make a night of it.

If it's something that you may be interested, where is the real harm in trying.

Having a meal at Buffalo Wild Wings isn't the problem. It's the audition and what probably won't happen that's the drawback for me. Quite frankly, I have no chance of winning this contest.

It's cool.

But, life is about risks.

Something like this is a little bit different than looking for a job when you're out of work.

This is closer to winning the lottery.

You try to win the lottery, and you'd be ecstatic if you did, but when you don't, you don't really fret because you're really not counting on those winnings to pay the bills.*

We think you might have some fun, and fears aside, where is the harm in trying. Life is about risk. Don't live with regret...it sucks.

*anyone that relies on the lottery to pay their bills is a complete moron, and deserves to be living in a cardboard box on Lower Wacker Drive.

That's exactly the kind of person they should hire. A guy who doesn't fit the mold. You could be the black swan they are looking for. I really think you should try this, SHARK. Positive attitude.

Well, I'll check out the Web site and we'll see what happens. Hopefully I can audition at either the Skokie or Lincoln Park Buffalo Wild Wings locations. I don't exactly drive either.

I sent my registration email, hopefully get a date set up.

There's really no point. If by some ridiculous chance I won the thing I'd be staking a lot on getting paid a minimal amount to shift-grovel, but it's worth a shot just to see if I can prove it to myself that I'm not a total sputtering numbnuts.

I went with Spmack.

You need to separate RPB and OKC, they may be on the same show but I don't vote for those with ties to a certain radical, fundamentalist ALS group.
