And some unique bars too. Lumberjack Tavern in Big Bay features 6 foot chainsaws hanging from the ceiling. We were the only ones not wearing flannel and our car was the only one in the lot with Illinois plates. I think the most expensive beer was $3.25.

Our son goes to school up there. If it wasn't for that I don't think I would have ever stepped foot in the UP.

Or you can go for the best of both worlds. Last year in a charity auction my girlfriend won a weeklong stay in a cabin. There was a river right in back of it that is the border of Wisconsin and the U.P. It was right near Iron Mountain, MI. I never realized that Tom Izzo and Steve Mariucci were best friends who grew up together and dominated high school sports up there, but that's what the sign says. Anyway, it was kind of nice to get away from the city for a bit, but there was no cell service. I had to drive into town just to check the race results. A whole week was a little too long. My girlfriend loved it though. And I did catch a smallmouth out of that river that was about as big as the one Mac got yesterday.
