There are rare occassions when the nation embraces a small market team, but going in Networks will always want the big markets

I'm making this argument because I think it's damn foolish for anybody to suggest that ABC would be upset with a Finals matchup featuring the Miami Heat, when the Heat garnered great ratings last year. ESPECIALLY if the Heat are facing the Spurs, who features a player in Tim Duncan who at this point is more recognizeable to casual fans than Westbrook or Durant.

I'll never understand why anyone gives a shit about tv ratings of a sports event. Its always talked about? Why? If I like it I sit in front of my tv. If I dont I won't. Why would I care how much money a network is making selling commercials?

Because some people believe the NBA uses their officials to try to create more interesting matchups in order to sell more commercials on TV stations

Dallas-Ft. Worth is the 5th largest TV market in the country.

San Antonio...#37. Miami...#16.

I think the NBA rather have LeBron and the Heatles in the finals over Boston even though Boston is from the Northeast and a larger market. But maybe I am wrong and people can't get enough Stietsma

Agreed. But if you aren't an Association fan, you unfortunately wouldn't know it.

Stern has to be wildly conflicted about the Spurs. No controversy, no drama....but no ratings either.

Hard to believe a team employing Stephen Jackson doesn't have any controversy but that's the Spurs for you

I'll be watching. The Spurs are a well oiled machine and may have what it takes to beat the Heat. I am in the anybody but LeBron crowd.

Everyone knows that basketball ratings only matter when they are being used to say how no one cares about hockey.

The question I initially asked. Which will be a higher rated Finals' matchup? Kings/Devils in the NHL Stanley Cup Finals starting on NBC tonight or Heat/Spurs (possibly) in the NBA Finals on ABC next month?

Guys, that's a BIG reason why ABC doesn't want the Spurs in the NBA Finals. It's lame, I know, but it's the truth!

Yup. And most fans outside of Miami are. That's why Miami will bring viewers into the Finals regardless. They are by far the most popular team in the sport, regardless of market size.

So if a Spurs-Heat Finals pulls in good ratings will that finally put this meme to bed?

And my question remains, why does it matter which sport gets better ratings? Both sports have their own fans.

Because, why? Retarded NBA fans like watching over hyped idiots who don't play defense, don't win championships and bitch/moan all the time?

Methinks he should be recognized as being an amazing fucking basketball player, a Ring Winning Champion and an all-around solid dude.

Playing awesome, being great at your position, winning and the like shouldn't be boring.

I don't know what point you're arguing man.

I'm not arguing on a pro-Spurs ticket here. I'm saying...again...that if the Heat are in the Finals, they will pop a rating regardless. I've made that about as clear as I can.

You're right Byron. SHARK has his sources inside ABC and they've told him what they want and what they don't. Sorry for questioning.

No you havent. That is not true. You literally just made the argument that Tim Duncan is recognizable.

Spurs are ratings death for the Finals. SHARK is right to assume that ABC doesnt want them.

No one has said that except Cairo during his rant.

Its common knowledge that Bigger markets = Bigger Ratings

Thats all SHARK was saying.

He was right. Thats all there is to it.

The numbers are right there
