Won't happen again.

Compared to Kevin Durant, yes he is. But that wasn't the basis of my argument anyway. It was an aside. You're just cherry-picking at this point.

SHARK did a little research. Thank Wikipedia and that little Bing search engine. I'm not making this up. The Spurs may be the NBA's best team, but "Must See TV" they aren't.

Well, we're not in Canada, so the NBA Finals should have about five times as many viewers.

Getting chippy in here today. Maybe we shouldn't start daily threads at breakfast.

You know what I personally think ABC execs are thinking? They're probably thinking, "Let's go Heat!"

Notice how I didn't state that as fact, but as my opinion, BTW?

No, im not

You're trying to explain why you have a problem with SHARK's very logical conclusion.

Even if the Heat bring in ratings, the network would still prefer a team in a bigger market or one that doesnt have a history of terrible ratings in the Final

Your position is ridiculous and the "SHARK doesnt know anyone at ABC" is a total strawman. He doesnt have to know anyone at ABC to make the very logical conclusion, that Networks like bigger markets.

It's a good thing we don't jump down Dan Bernstein's throat every time he postulates what others must be thinking without prefacing it with "I think that." Unless we do now. I dunno.

No he didnt.

Why would you think that? You think every time someone says something on this board about the Cubs, Bears ect, it means they're claiming to have inside knowledge of the organization?

Show me a post where SHARK said he knows people at ABC. Making the extremely obvious statement that networks want bigger markets doesnt count.

You're doing what I like to call "arguing just to argue". If you think SHARK's conclusion is logical, that's on you bruh. I'm just saying...it's not.

He could simply say, "I think ABC probably doesn't want the Spurs in the Finals." But I guess it takes too much effort to qualify an opinion sometimes.

And here's something to chew on, too. Even though they play in Newark, the Devils are technically part of the New York/Tri-State area, the #1 media market. Los Angeles is #2. According to Bernsy's buddy, CNBC's Darren Rovell, ratings have actually increased for NBC Universal's family of networks with the "Peacock" broadcasting EVERY Stanley Cup Playoff game. The Blackhawks are long since out of it, but people are still watching the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The point I'm trying to make...Don't be shocked if the Stanley Cup Finals outdraws the NBA Finals.

The NHL will never outdraw the NBA. Never.

And New Jersey may be in the same market as New York, but the fan base is much smaller.

It's not about size of market. It's about recognizeable players.

Nobody outside of Chicago and Houston watched the 2005 World Series, despite Chicago being the 3rd largest market. That's an overrated metric.

That's because half of Chicago could give two craps and a stroke about the White Sox

I could also win the lottery, buy ABC, and hire executives to specifically not care about sports ratings. But I wouldn't bet on it happening.

Either way youre wrong. History clearly shows The Spurs get terrible ratings.

You are arguing with a well established trend.

Youre really hung up on that. Everyone should start every post with "In My Opinion...."

I see why thats annoying sometimes, especially when its clearly debateable.

This is not

The South Side of Chicago is not the 3rd biggest market in the Country

And, no that metric is not overrated.

Did you not see the ratings I posted?

Just because the SCF involves New York and Los Angeles doesn't mean it's interesting to all points in between. Hockey teams can get better ratings than their basketball counterparts, locally, but the NHL doesn't have the national appeal that the NBA has in the United States. Different story in Canada, of course.

The best ratings the SCF ever got was Boston and Vancouver last year, which was the closest thing we had to "national appeal" in the US as pretty much every American hockey market of consequence wanted to see the bitch-ass Canucks lose. That rating? 3.2. Worst NBA Finals was San Antonio and Cleveland, at like a 6.2. So the NBA at its worst doubles the NHL at its best, nationally speaking. If you're going to bet on the right side of this one, make it good.
