Come on now guy. It's your damn house and you are home. This wasn't like one bottle being snuck behind the garage.

Cops: Father cited for allowing underage drinking party

By Jennifer Delgado TribLocal reporter

A 64-year-old Park Ridge father was ticketed for allowing minors to drink alcohol at his home, though the man told police he tried to stop them.

Police were called to the 1600 block of Vine Street at 10:30 p.m. May 25 for an underage drinking party, but most of the minors had scattered when officers arrived, said Deputy Chief Lou Jogmen. A mother picking up her intoxicated 15-year-old daughter was at the scene, as well, and unhappy the homeowners allowed alcohol at the gathering, Jogmen said.

The mother told police she saw at least 50 out of 100 minors openly drinking alcohol at the party, though police were unable to corroborate that, Jogmen said.

The 64-year-old father told police he had taken steps to ensure there was no alcohol at the party. He and his wife also threw out the alcoholic beverages when they discovered juveniles at the party were drinking, Jogmen said.

Later, the mother of the 15-year-old, who was cited for zero tolerance, tried collecting beer cans on the front lawn for evidence, but ended up getting into an argument with the homeowner’s teenage daughter, Jogmen said.

The father was cited for negligently failing to prevent underage drinking and is scheduled to appear at an adjudication hearing on June 12. Besides the 15-year-old, police did not cite any other minors because everyone else had left, Jogmen said.

Douchebag the mother of the drunk 15 year old trying to narc. YOUR DAUGHTER WAS DRUNK and this most likely was not the first time and she most likely brought he own booze. You have some housecleaning of your own to handle.

Yes, as we all recognize, except for this mother who would prefer to deflect blame. Take you deflating balloon noises elsewhere

How does a parent "TRY" and stop kids from drinking in their house?

You're the parent/owner/guardian, it's your house....WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING?!?!?!

If one of those kids got in a car, drove and killed someone.....the owners of that house they were drinking at would be totally fucked.

You ever drink underage at someone's house? How easy was it for you to get away with it?

We only did when the person's parents weren't home.

You were a good kid, then. Shit, we used to sneak around in the basement and raid the liquor cabinets regardless of who was home or not. Even pissed in an empty milk gallon so I didn't have to walk upstairs all drunk.

There's nothing wrong with letting kids drink on your property. Id rather them do it with me than ON THE STREET.

I agree to a point, but not at 15. My parents did this when we were 17 and up and took the keys so no one could leave and got the ok from the other parents. 15 is too young in my depleted cell because of drinking too young mind.

Not the same. The article makes it out to be that the parents or whoever that were there knew there was drinking going on and either didn't try and stop it, let it go on are whatnot and the parents just shrugged their shoulders and said "Yeah well we tried to stop them from drinking in the house but we couldn't so what are ya' gonna do?"

If there article says different then I apologize.

Many parents/guardians take that stance, but if you knowingly, or at least in ILLINOIS, unknowingly have kids drinking at your house and one of them gets hurt, gets in a car and gets into an accident, goes to another party and fucks shit up or gets hurt.....or whatever crazy shit can happen when teens are boozed up, the legal fallout will be on you.

I figured you were.

The next time I see drunken teens on a booze and drug filled rampage around the Lockport/Frankfort/Mokena Metropolis I will blame it on you anyways.

We had 2 sets of parents that would let us 'drink' with them one time a year. 1 was at their lake house in Wisconsin, the other was for a New Year's Party in their basement.

Both times, keys would be taken and nobody would leave. I guess we were responsible underage drinkers

That is fucking crazy that if you have zero knowledge of alcohol being consumed you can get in trouble. And I'm not talking about a giant party. I'm talking about trying to give your high school aged kids (small group, 4 or 5 of them) a little privacy while watching a movie, not knowing they had snuck booze into your house and then they drive somewhere else later. Thats scary.

And yet some people are comfortable openly doing it.

SomeGuy is right. ANYTHING can happen. A kid could have an illness and drink too much. There could be one of these fights with a punch that ends up killing someone. Someone could trip and crack their head open

I understand the reasoning but its just way too risky for me.

Well, it's comparable to a bartender that continues to serve an obviously/no so obvious drunken patron and then the wasted patron leaves and kills someone with his car 20 miles away. The bartender and bar owner are going to be in trouble.

When I taught driver ed I would always make sure the students knew this shit so maybe, just maybe they would understand that the consequences don't just affect them but also the adults that own the house. Some would even have stories about it happening to a friends parents or whatever and some were shocked.
