I think people are over selling how much over spending on the draft was part of Theo's plan

He made the right picks.

Im not sure Boston is in a bad spot because of those deals.

Anyway, Theo's job is not to over spend on players. Its to find the any advantage he can. He has a history of doing that (SABR, Drafting, International Scouting)

I hope/expect he'll continue to be ahead of the curve

He found having so much cash that he could draft well above slot? I don't concentrate much on MLB draft to give a full analysis but he did just that with both Pedroia and Ellsbury, who just happen to be MVP level players.

Papi was a steal. He has a low power DH not offered arbitration for the Twins who suddenly developed power. Lowell was a Hendry style raping of a cash strapped organization. Millar was a nice role playing pick up...but all of these moves are ancient history in baseball terms.

I hold Epstein in the same esteem as Cashman. I think they are both pretty good. I'm not sure about because their most favorable attribute has been an almost unfathomable economic advantage.

A person has to want to help themselves, plus Mac was another stations problem for awhile. Cannot really hold that against them too much. I am also sure the Hawks have talked to Kane before, if Kane's family isn't the least bit concerned then they are in denial. They are correct in "he is just a kid" does not work anymore.

Sammy Sosa and Barry Bonds also suddenly developed power, Sammy did it right in front of Chicago's eyes. Who knows how much of that was Theo being smart and how much was him getting a guy willing to go heavy on the juice.

Not suggesting Theo is bad at all, he is a good GM. However, his success in Boston does not equal a guarantee of success in Chicago. Some Cubs fans are already getting impatient and I could see the Ricketts putting pressure to speed things up.

"If Englewood is so bad, why don't people just move somewhere else?"

Some of the shit they say is idiotic, Terry always claims that he "doesn't know what occupy is saying"... there is a general message and its not all that difficult to figure it out. Very few protests nowadays are going to focus on one specific issue. We know where Dan stands politically, so lots of what he says I think is just him trying to be an asshole.

That being said, its a damn sports radio show. Just ignore the parts you do not like, I do.

This show got really icky with the money talk. "Rich people deserve scholarships too" and "you should've seen my Duke classmates in tailored suits" was such over-the-top baiting that somewhere, Ted DiBiase was like "whoa, pump the brakes."

They had so much cash, they gave the Seibu Lions $51 million just to talk to Matsuzaka.

Wegner is going to get murdered because of Hawk. Summary of Terry Boers argument.

The bulls will be a mess next year, the cubs for years to come, the hawks who knows, the sox are in first place... lets beat the announcer to death. these guys have no other interest other than baiting caller traffic. i cant see any other reason to beat hawk to death. he said what he said. owned it got reprimanded and said he'd quit if he had to change his style. any further questions?

Got a chance to listen to it.

Another pointlessly and obviously contrived segment. All the classic B&B schlock, class-ism, racial undertones, the screened in call claiming racism, ranting and raving and tilting at windmills. Que up some callers...and serve.

They are carrying on like it's just them that think that there is no problem with Diddy's kid getting scholarship. Everyone on Earth is against it BUT them.

Just dumb and contrived.

And now we have Schuster on to help drop some attendance propaganda to shame us, the fans, into going to the game?

Every fucking goddamn day on every show with this shit.

Many at that station are not earning a high income. But at least they get to work in a tall skyscraper in The Big City and talk about SPORTS in the hallways and be on, or help someone who is on, the radio!

The 10 minutes I caught in the car was Dan berating a caller who he said was defending Kane and being browbeat and then hung up on before he was allowed to say anything else, followed by both of then cackling at Abbatacola's typing in the computer who the caller was, his subject, and the most hilarious of all rejoinders, calling him a retard. Great stuff there guys.

It's just as well that that call was aborted, because Dan was painting himself into a semantic corner with the idea that a "mistake" must be feckless or inconsequential in nature, i.e. Kane punching a cab driver who locked the door on him "wasn't a mistake, it was a crime." Well, no, it was both. I would say that choosing, albeit drunkenly, to assault another person is to make one big fucking mistake!

There's no defending what he did, but it's been nearly three years and the matter has been settled in court, so we shouldn't be talking about the goddamn Buffalo cab driver anymore in the first place. But again, as far as the show is concerned, Patrick Kane doesn't actually have a career, he only exists to the extent that he is fucking up in public. Kind of like a sports Lindsay Lohan.

I like their show. I really do. But I find myself listening to them less and less every day. It is getting repetitive, predictable and boring. I really hope they can turn it around. Stop baiting meatballs, taking their calls, then berating them might be a start. Oh, and stop with the straw man arguments. Please, because I'd like to find my afternoon sports talk joy again.
