And work

CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago Transit Authority says it will close a major section of its Red Line train route for five months.

The CTA said Monday that it would close nine Red Line stations over 10 miles on the city's South Side starting in spring 2013. The closures would affect the Cermak/Chinatown station south to 95th Street, the end of the train line. The closures are part of a $425 million track replacement project. The CTA says it's one of the biggest construction projects in its history.

CTA officials say the closures will let workers finish the project in five months instead of the four years it would take if closures were done only on the weekends. The CTA says it will offer shuttle service, additional buses and discounted rides.

The only time i've ever taken the redline was for WS05 Game 2. So, this doesn't affect me at all.
And really, I don't think all that many Sox fans are taking the redline to 95th Street after the game.

The 35th Green Line stop is only 2 blocks east. And there is a 35th Metra Stop stop.

The real question is why are they shutting down the entire Dan Ryan portion? This would never happen on the Purple Line, Brown Line, or Howard (North Side) portion or the Red Line.

And lets not forget that the Green Line was closed from like 94-96.

Doug they are stopping it at 22nd street.
Forrest Claypool was just on the radio telling people to take the Green line going home from the Sox game. They could walk there as it is only a block. Is he freaking crazy.

Spmack, A person of your color may be safe walking through that area, I doubt I would feel safe walking it after a game on a Sat night in July.

Easier to share tracks with the north branch of the red line.

Still doesn't really matter. At worst, It'll give Kenny a reason for not making any deadline trades next year.

Like I said in the B&B thread, they can do the north side branch station-by-station because there are more stations with less space between them, so they can do a skip-stop thing and keep service going in some limited form. The south side branch doesn't allow for that, so they may as well do it in one fell swoop and save the money.

Guys, that entire area is iffy. I used to live at 31st and Princeton. I would not walk to the park after dark, the retards that live in Armour Square are not to mess with. I know where the station is. It is on the IIT campus.
Plus Police HQ is there so should be cool my bad. That is where DeLaSalle is at as well.

where in the ville pal.I hail from there.

Dude, west of Halsted is safe . East of the tracks tween 35th and 29th is the iffy area. You also have a lot of Italian"social"clubs round there. One time some kids from Chinatown came into the hood made some trouble. They turned up a few days later in a garbage dumpster . I moved out to the country here about 4 years ago. Ville is turning bad from what I hear. Gangs and shit, even with all the nice new homes going up.
Seriously, I have rode all the El Lines when I was working for the city. Best way to get to job site and save money. If you drove to the Ward office they would make you drive yourself around and not pay you for it.

That's a pretty dickheaded and racist thing to say. And you wonder why you don't get the benefit of the doubt on here? WTF man?

You know what. Is it a racial thing to say , yup. Yet it is true . You and Spamck can go places I can't with out drawing stares and possible altercations. I too can go places you two can not with out the same. Sad but true. It sucks that the world is like that but ti is. We would be better off acknowledging it and coming to grips with it instead of pretending it is not there.

I disagree. White guys should pretty much feel safe anywhere in and around Chicagoland. Why? Because brothers know that the penalty for fucking you up or killing you would be much more harsh than killing me or Kamps. A white life is more valuable in the legal system. It's an unspoken yet understood thing.

OKc I disagree. When I worked for the City first dept I was with was the guys you see walking down the streets cleaning them. In certain areas I was not allowed to work alone. Why because of my color. I was told to stay on the street and stay visible at all times. I always went into where iI was eating with someone else. Hell I love Harolds Chicken. The best one is on 76th and Dan Ryan. You should have seen the looks I got going in there. I was waiting for a bus at 43rd and Michigan after leaving the Ward yard there. I had a person come up tell me to get on the El platform cuze some kids where going to fuck with me. After a storm one time we where working over around 63rd and Wallace. a bunch of about 10 kids encircled the 3 of us. Thank the Lord our driver pulled up.
Was my color a factor hell yes. Tell you what you walk through where I grew up bet you do not even get looked at funny. It is supposed to be one of the most racist areas in Chicago, yet nothing will happen to you. Me and you take a walk around 120th and Halsted and see what happens to me.
