E3 starts today, looks like this is going to be the biggest E3 in years with the debut of one new console for sure and probably two others as well assuming Xbox and Sony are ready to start talking next gen.

Live coverage all day on Spike all week long. I've got my DVR set.

Keep all discussion in here, should be an epic week for video game news.

I think Microsoft is today, hopefully we'll see a new console!

So it was Halo, Splinter Cell, and Usher...

Not exactly sprinting out of the gates this year.

This late in the console life cycle what did you expect?

I thought the media stuff was pretty cool, Kinetic integration with the sports titles was neat. Lara Croft, Splinter Cell, Halo 4 look pretty cool.

I'm just itching to see some next gen console rumors.

I wonder if this will end up being the last Nintendo console. The problem is that it looks like they are trying to compete with the iPad more than the normal rivals.

I'm a huge Nintendo fan but I don't know if that is a good direction to go.

I'm looking forward to Nintendo's conference as I'm hoping that we get some real specs on the Wii U, game line up, release date etc.

Will there be a Virtual Console? If so, how will those games be saved on your system?

Cloud, for the Virtual Console games? Cool.

Didn't the Wii save it to hardware and not your profile so if your console broke you would have to buy the games all over again? I know that was the case for the DS.

It was in cruise control, no breaking news, nothing surprising; I was hoping for a next gen announcement, or something...

EA was pretty meh too, although I am a sucker for Crysis III

Just got done watching Microsoft's presser...a few comments:

Halo 4 just won me over...sure, I have more questions after seeing that bit of gameplay (mainly, why the fuck are there Covenant and why are we still fighting them?) but what I saw looked pretty good. Graphics seem to have taken a huge leap forward. Looking forward to seeing multiplayer in action tonight.

Contradicting previous exciting, too much focus from Microsoft on sequels/prequels/spin-offs and the like. Would have loved to see some new IP...of course, it's probably because they don't have any that is stage ready.

Shitty game lineup aside, the other stuff they showed was pretty awesome. Excited about all the new sports options that will be available (epsecially loved a guy name Yusif or whatever it was begging for some applause from the crowd at the prospect of watching Hockey on their Xbox).

Smartglass...yeah, that could be a thing. I doubt it will be able to do half the shit they think it will, but the thought of drawing up a play in Madden on my tablet/smartphone and then using it in the game on my Xbox is the kind of stuff that will really energize the core gaming market.

Oh, and Usher, if you aren't even going to try to sing your own song, don't wear a mic.

That is all.

edit: Black Ops II sucks FTW.

The clusterfuck that was Wonderbook aside, Sony just handed it to Microsoft for the first time since I can remember. Closing with the one two punch of a new God of War and The Last of Us was the perfect way to cap a great presser.

What about the WiiU? Aren't you going to mention it? Did they mention it? Does it suck, or are you going to just say it sucks?

NO U WiiU

God of War is as played out as CoD at this point, but I was never a fan to begin with... The Last of Us looked amazing as did Beyond, but I still dont know enough about the latter. The book thing was bad, but the technology behind it looked decent enough; they should have rolled that one out at a different time.

EA didn't spend anytime on NHL, so as far as I'm concerned they can go fuck themselves...

Ubisoft FTW! People are tired of Assassins Creed, but that looked pretty damn good to me.

Watched the Microsoft presser, it was pretty weak. That smartglass feature or whatever it was called seems over reaching at best, pointless at worst. Tomb Raider looked like it could be good.

The one thing that annoys the crap out of me and they should really ban them in the future is trailers that don't have gameplay. What's the fucking point?

Borderlands 2 looked good.

Overall, game news at E3 doesn't impress me, I want to hear about hardware.

Some of the new entertainment features for Live seemed really dumb. ESPN? Who is the target audience for that? People who have Xbox live but don't have cable? How many fit into that category?

And way too much Kinnect. I'm starting to think that Kinnect might drive me away from sticking with Microsoft in the future. Voice commands are neat, but that is the ONLY thing I would ever want to use Kinnect for. I sure as shit have no intention of EVER playing a video game while standing up in my living room. That would utterly defeat the purpose of playing video games which imo is to relax and get your mind off the daily grind.

How did you guys see the Playstation presser? It wasn't on Spike.

Very much looking forward to Nintendo and their new console. As long as its HD and has sufficient power I'll definitely be buying it even if it only has 2-3 games over its entire lifespan. IMO first party Nintendo games like Super Mario and Zelda are good enough to warrant buying a console.

Many people. Where have you been? Traditional TV is on a huge downward slope. Many people get buy with internet sports packages, Netflix, Hulu, etc...

How much does that end up costing compared to a cable/Directv subscription? I imagine it all adds up if you want your sports packages, network tv shows, HBO, Showtime, Discovery, History, TNT, MTV, etc. Can you get all those from one site? And then you are stuck watching it all on a computer unless you connect your computer to your tv which I imagine might dilute the quality a bit?

it's actually not a bad route to go, I know a lot of my friends are going in this direction, you don't have to pay for HD, Hulu gives you most of the shows without upgrading to plus, and Gamecenter is the same cost as center ice, add iTunes for new movie rentals, and you're all set for about $30 during the season, if you have Comcast Internet, I think you get some access to their on demand online, but don't quote me on that...

The Roku box is always on and always connected to the tv, it's a champ, and costs $70 or so...

Wow, just watched the Nintendo presser and can't believe how weak it was. Pikmin? Seriously, you lead with Pikmin?

And then Reggie promises that its all about the games, yet I can't think of even one that loooked good. the zombie game migth not be bad, but I'm biased to like zombies.

The most disappointing was the New Super Mario Bros. It looked like a great DS game. You have a new powerful console and finally HD and you go ahead and turn back the clock 20 years and give us a fucking side scrolling Mario Bros?????? WTF!

The rest of the games were mosty rereleases of 360 and PS3 games that were released in the past year. Hey, congrats Nintendo on playing catch up! Batman Arkam City? Mass Effect 3? Who gives a flying fuck! This is E3 2012, not 2011.

The new controller looks cumbersome and most of the features are pointless unless you live in a mult person home with only 1 tv. having a map at all times on the tablet is a cool feature for some games, but being able to play a game on the controller while someone else watches tv seems completely pointless.

I would give that presser a D- at best.

I went from planning to buy a Nintendo when it was released to possibly thinking about buying one eventually if they ever got any good games.

I think I'm in the same boat. I'll probably wait until it's cheaper when the xbox 720 comes out.

They really seemed to push the "social networking" aspects of single player games. This leads me to believe that the Wii U is looking to have some farmville type games where you kind of are on your own but others are around too. I hope I'm wrong.

no, you're probably right. That whole miiverse thing was front and center in their presentation.

They are continuing the distrubing trend of video games pushing the single player out of existence.

Do you really want to play Mario and then have your game screen littered with text bubbles from people you know?

The worst part was that they showed the new Mario for the 3Ds and it looks basically the same as the mario they are pushing on us for the brand new high powered console. Pathetic.

I've always said that Nintendo only needs 2-3 great games to make it worth owning, but 99% of the time 2 of those games are Mario and Zelda. With Mario looking like a step back and no Zelda in the works this system could be doomed from the start. Also, without having a fad like the Wii I don't see how they are going to sell systems on day 1 with that crappy lineup.

there is when you're using it to sell systems and its a step back from the mario game you were pushing out on the previous console.

Nowadays, side scrolling platformers have been relegated to hand helds or downloadables.
