This is a very reverse Elmhurst Stevian sentiment. I'm not going to pretend that it's rough being a white man in America, but let's also not pretend that there aren't places in Chicago where being white doesn't get a little extra attention, to say the least.

I'm not saying it wouldn't garner extra attention, nor am I saying Chas wouldn't get some unwelcome looks. I'm just saying that based on his race, I think Chas would be less likely to be harmed in a black neighborhood than a black person would.

Like I said kid, me and you . We walk where I grew up ,see how many stares we get. Then we go to any African -American Hood and see what looks we get.

This is the problem with race relations in not only Chicago but the country as a whole.Only one side is being claimed as racist and predigest. All sides are equally at fault not for harboring those feelings but denying them and not being honest and open. For as admittedly ugly as Steve's comments can be he is at least open about his feelings. Look at what happen when I brought up the fact that to me, Cracker was just as offensive as the n word. I was shouted down for basically claiming that black people can be racist as much as white's. I claim it is all bullshit, what you are on the outside should not count as much as what is in your inside, but untill all parties involved talk about it in an honest and open matter we will get no where.
Look at the Trevon Martin case. Zimmerman is fucking Hispanic. Yet every single story I hear, see or read refers to him as white. All that shit does is stir shit up for no reason.
I wish the search function worked so I could bring up the kid who got beat up and has his bike taken from him in Beverly because he was white. The kids involved admitted to it. Was it declared a hate crime? No.A lot of you guys where cautioning patience and the fact that it was not a hate crime. Yet most of you are the same guys screaming hate crime in the Martin case.

They make shitty neighbors too.
All I can go on is what happen when a few families moved onto my mothers block. They vetoed the block party. Went to the neighborhood Improvement association rep and complained that if everyone's kids did not stop running on their lawns they where going to start calling the police. Very anti social. The block has a ton of younger familes plus the library and park on it so there are kids all over all the time.
Peep's like like I said I can only go by what I know. When I lived on the border tween Bridgeport and Chinatown my neighbors where cool.
ehh kinda a small sample size to say make that statement..i have had a couple chinese neighbors who were real cool...you remind me of clint in gran torino.

Kinda statement that sets off a 4-5 page thread on why Steve is a dickhead. But wait a black man said it so no problem.
Shows what a bunch of hypocrites all you fucks are.

I disagree about the safety thing

Even if its true for 99% of people, I dont wanna run into that 1%

I feel relatively safe most places in Chicago, but there are certain pockets Id stay away from.

Getting back to the topic at hand, it doesn't sound as bad as I originally thought.

For one thing Chas, the Red Line will run down the Green Line's route.

Meaning that people who hop on the red line downtown going south will be able to stay on the same train and it will take you to 35th Green Line stop, which is about 2 blocks east.

The Red Line will then serve as the "Green Line Southwest" extension by making all of the Green Line stops to 63rd and Ashland (ooh, Englewood!)

And then there will be free shuttles from the closed El stops at 63rd, 69th, 79th, 87th, and 95th.

I know maintenance is part of things and it has to be done, but its funny how every 12 or 18 months the CTA has this "doomsday plan" with massive service cuts and fare hikes, and yet they always have money to revamp stations, sections of track, build the Pink Line, extend the Yellow Line, etc etc.

It is going to be a huge mess. A rush hour train is 7 cars each holding about 25 people. Running at 5 min intervals. you are going to have to replace each train with 4-5 buses. They will operate on the street subject to traffic and traffic signals. It is going to be a cluster fuck.

Like I said You come walk in my old Hood with me and see what happens and looks we get. Then we go to Engelwood and do the same thing. Bet we get a more negative reaction in Engelwood. Until as I said both sides have an honest and frank discussion on race ,we will get no where. So you are saying that Engelwood is a safe place to walk at night?
