Strong rumors that it's coming out this fall. I'm still rocking a 3GS so I'm definitely going to upgrade. Going to post updates and such as I find them

http://www.bgr.com/2012/06/07/apple-iph ... +Report%29

Leaked case for the 5 being speculated. About the same width, but it's about another .5 or so inches taller so it will have a bigger screen. The biggest surprise from this video appears that there is a standard USB attachment on the bottom of the 5 instead of using the specific Apple only size.

So basically all those iPod docks everyone owns are going to be obsolete?

Fuck you Apple.

That was my first thought. I'm assuming they are going to sell an adapter of some sort. Which after typing that sentence, pisses me off more.

I'm also still using a 3GS and waiting to upgrade to the 5. I have a client who is a major retailer who tells me they been told to expect it between late July and early August, well before the rumored October date.

http://www.chicagotribune.com/business/ ... 1392.story

Quote:
A second video has emerged with what is believed to be a part of the next iPhone; this time it's the back cover.

The video, which was posted on YouTube Wednesday by ETrade Supply, appears to confirm various rumored changes expected to be coming to next iPhone, which many have dubbed the iPhone 5.

The part shown in the video is apparently the back cover of the phone as well as the device's metallic antenna. It looks like a variation of the cover used for the iPhone 4 and 4S: It is no longer plain black or white but features what looks like brushed metal over the bulk of it.

ETrade Supply notes what it says are various changes to the phone in the video, including the fact that it is longer than previous iPhones and looks to fit a 4-inch screen diagonally. However, though the phone is not wider, it is thinner, which is a change that was not previously expected.

What may be the next iPhone also appears to have a new and much smaller dock connector along its bottom side. It also has redesigned speaker grills, and its headphone jack is located along the bottom.

The video also shows what looks like a microphone located between the phone's camera and flash, which had also previously been rumored. The phone's SIM card is a smaller size, which could mean the next iPhone will use a small SIM card.

Currently, most people believe that the next iPhone won't arrive until October, but some reports have said the phone is ahead of schedule. And with so many parts and rumors beginning to leak, you have to wonder if the next iPhone might not launch earlier than previously expected.

I think I'm gonna finally take the plunge with this one. Not sure if I will up for a contract since I love the free agent status I've had for the last couple years. Have to decide if being a free agent is worth the extra $400. I've been using Verizon for past couple years and haven't had any problems so might take the plunge.

I sat out 4S. Highly likely that I'll go for 5.

I sat out 1-4, so I think I'll keep the streak alive for 5.

Me too. Now deciding if I want to switch to Verizon. AT&T has been really shitty for me lately.

Does Apple's proprietary port even offer any technical advantages over USB?

I'm sick of the whole upgrade routine. I've taken great care of my 3Gs, passing on the 4 and 4s in the hopes of getting the 5, and then a couple of weeks ago the fucking antenna went bad. Of course, it wasn't an easy fix. Apple gave me a choice...get the 4s (and blow the upgrade I was saving for the 5) or pay for a new 3Gs for $149 and turn in my current phone (which they will likely fix for next to nothing and resell for close to $149). The cynic in me felt as if Apple had a secret piece of code that instructed a part to fail after a certain period of time.

I actually think Apple is going to start to see a downward slide starting with the 5, and I'm afraid they may even do something drastic with the pricing model. The cell carriers are tired of subsidizing these phones.

Doubt there is a slide and highly doubt the pricing model changes. JMO.

My Droid Incredible has proved effective, user-friendly, and more than capable for a good while, even if it's only 3G. Apple can go fuck themselves.

Interesting point you raise there ... Europe is basically moving away from subsidizing hardware and some think this is in the cross-hairs of the Consumer Financial Protection Board after they are done beating the banks the death. Vodafone (half owned by Verizon) has eliminated subsidies in a couple of European countries already.

Cell phone execs at T-Mobile, AT&T and Verizon have all said they are considering major overhauls of this program. In theory ... the cost of your service should decrease without these payments being made to hardware (Apple, Samsung, Motorola) and software (Apple/Google) companies, but we all know what will actually happen ... same plan costs combined with more expensive hardware.

If you own stock in Apple, Google, Samsung, etc. - get out now on top.

iOS devices are getting seriously embraced by enterprise. There is an appealing value proposition in the relative homogeneity that Apple product lineup provides for companies investing in mobile solutions. The last year or two brought about a number of solid iOS shops who can pull off a delivery of "grown up" products. When you hire these outfits, one thing you are looking for is a platform that allows for the least amount of variability. Variability = cost, risk, uncertainty, careers down the sh*tter. Apple's dictatorial control of iOS and carefully managed product lineup provides about as much certainty as you can provide in these types of deals. Android solutions, by their very nature, are the wild wild west of this paticular space.

My job requires a dedicated phone. The sysadmins get an iPhone. The monitor group gets a blackberry curve. It is okay for what it is, but if I had that as my primary phone, I'd be in a world of hurt.

The Galaxy S3 and S4 are a huge part of this. Those phones are just too good.

I'm still on the Galaxy S2, and it miles ahead of the iPhone 3 and 4 I've had.

Now I admit I don't know all about this but mine says GalaxyS on the back and I love the phone.

I just upgraded to the Samsung Galaxy 4, & now I know why this phone is outselling Apples IPhone big time. It great. 2 of my 3 kids want to replace their Iphone with the Galaxy S4. As an anti Apple guy, that's fine with me.

The market share is due to their being millions of different Android devices. It's almost not an apples to apples comparison, pun intended.

The S4 seems like a nice phone.

Android is seriously going away though.
