Nicely done Mr. Mayor.

Makes good sense. It's a waste of resources fighting it in small quantities.

Good idea. Frees up the judges and prosecutors. Takes case loads off of the Public Defenders. Reduces number of people in Cook County Jail. Only thing I would change is a sort of three strike rule or escalation to it. If say you are busted 3 or more times in a year the fine/penalty increases.

I think that's fair. If you get busted 3-4 times in one year for a gram of weed you are a terrible stoner and should probably get a new hobby anyway.

HIGH TIMES AT NEW TRIER HIGH

Was the cover of Time Magazine back in the 90's a story about drug use at NT.

I believe they worked very hard to get it removed from the web. I am sure there is something still out there.

All drugs should be legal.

What makes me sad about this silly little "War on Drugs" is that it's easier to score scripts than it is weed, at least from a position of legality, that is to say if a cop pulls you over and you got a bag of weed it's instantly a problem but if you've got say your bottle or whatever from the doc no problem.

Those goddamn prescription drugs are handed out with little thoughts or concerns and they're much more dangerous than the weed is.

It is not as easy as it used to be. They now do cross checking between pharmacies, insurance and doctors to make sure you are not being over prescribed. It is the one good thing that has come out of the Obama presidency.

So it would essentially be like getting a speeding ticket.

Hopefully less lives and families will be ruined by week now.

Yeah but the drugs come with that warning of not operating heavy equipment.

They didn't make them legal. They lowered the penalties and made it easier for those who would otherwise be in trouble to get help. If we made theft legal crime stats would go down too. Just like I doubt you want your neighbor to be able to run a theft operation you probably don't want him to be able to run a crystal meth operation.

If drugs were legal, my neighbor wouldn't have to run a crystal meth operation because some multi-million dollar corporation would. And competing companies wouldn't be shooting at each other in the streets.

I don't think that's fair at least now. Most doctors shut down drug seekers. It was a major problem for a while, and problems do still exist.

Isn't that kind of good though for people that want drugs to be readily available? I don't know where you fall on the "legalize drugs" stance but the ease of which prescription drugs are available shouldn't be a complaint of people like Mr. Reason and Hank Scorpio who thinks they should all be completely legal.

A multi-million dollar corporation sells food but my neighbors still have a garden and they still cook food at home rather than buying it all the time from companies.

But your neighbor who is addicted to crystal meth would still come over and rob and possibly kill your ass to pay for his habit.

And how is that any different when meth is illegal?

Also, prescription drugs are legal, and who do you think is heavily involved in the distribution of prescription drugs? It's the people that are shooting at each other in the streets.

Oh, but making drugs legal would get all the gangs to give up and go to college!

I don't think prescription drugs should exist at all. Everything should be over the counter.

I could call the cops on them before they get to the point of them needing to kill me.

The market for Crystal Meth homebrew stores would be pretty huge.

If everything was legal and sold in official government stores there would be no need to make your own. Selling it would still be illegal. The government would tax it and price it accordingly so as not to encourage street sales. If there is no money to be made there is nothing to fight over. Look at prohibition if you want a good example. That was in this country and only 100 years ago.

That is ludicrous. I can go to the local JHyVee and buy tomatoes but I still can grow them in my own backyard.

Tomatoes arent illegal right now. You can grow, sell and eat them without any fear of being arrested. PLus they arent bad for you. Your comparison is beyond stupid.
