Dunn is such a statistical anomaly. Guy has a batting average pushing .200 but still puts up the HR and RBI #'s.

I continue to be a doubting Thomas. I don't think you can strike out 300 times and hit 45 bombs. He's gonna fall apart again.

I'd like to think Adam Dunn won't bellyflop like he did last year, but the time has come for RV to give Adam a breather or two from this lineup. Right now, his overall BA starting the night in Minnesota is just .212 with 119 K's overall. While the White Sox are getting what they paid for from Dunn this year with all the homers & walks, Dunn is currently mired in a 2-for-28 slump to start the night with 18 K's. He's in the lineup tonight batting 3rd, but if he has another dud tonight, RV should give him a rest tomorrow in the getaway game.

Looking ahead, the White Sox will be dealing with the Yankees' Ivan Nova Thursday, C.C. Sabathia Friday, Hideki Kuroda Saturday and tonight's starter vs. the Indians in the Bronx, Phil Hughes Sunday, according to Sox/Tribune scribe Mark Gonzales.

Funny. I thought the season was still going..............

.......going downhill for him. He's at .212 right now, career avg is currently at .242, was at about .260 before the crash/burn last year and this year. On pace for more K's than he had last year (amazingly) and his OBP is careening back toward sub-300.

Not back. He had 2 decent-to-good months, now heading toward following that with a terrible one. He had 6+ miserable months last year. By definition, he isn't even close to being "back". Not even close.

I wont shut the door on the entire season though, leaving open the possibility of having a miraculous 3+ month run to finish the season and get "close to back".

Back. Been back all year, and the numbers don't lie. Talk about his avg all you want, I will post the numbers that actually mean something. As bad as he has been the last 8-10 games, still has the following AL ranks;

HR #2
RBI #4
BB #1
R #18 (only 9 off the lead league)
OPS #15, .879

Numbers. Don't. Lie.

edit; sorry, those are AL ranks

Tend to agree... stating the MLB #15 OPS guy is having a bad season because of batting average makes you look foolish.

Stating only the categories he's doing well in looks biased (granted, I usually point the bad parts - but the good parts are well stated in this thread. Just trying for some balance  ). Look at all of the stats, and look at the whole body of work, not just select weeks or months.

He's been a complete and total bust for 7 out of the 9 months he's played on the south side. Using all stat categories. So what exactly is he "back" to? What he was in DC? Nope. Cinncy? No way. He ain't "back" to anything good. Not yet at least.

Now that I think about it, I can see this Youkilis batting #2 thing screwing him up as much as it screws up Bacon. He's gonna feel extra pressure to drive in/move along this proven, veteran, "world's best teammate" that's batting in front of him way more than he would with AAAA Bacon batting there.

And he's proven to be mentally soft/hard on himself. It will be interesting to see. Of course, maybe Youk doesn't bat #2 very often either, maybe it won't mater.

He was historically awful last year. He is back to doing what he always does, hit homers, walk, and strike out.

15th in OPS (which hardly can be stated is "cherry picking" stats;) translates to being in the top 1.875% of players on MLB rosters. Any reasonable-minded observer would know that batting average isn't really an inclusive method of evaluating a players' production. I think you are just being argumentative.

This is laughable.

If the season ended right now, this would be the 2nd worst he's ever done in BA and OBP. BOTH!
2nd only to last year. And that's despite this amazing come back year that a few of you are trying to sell us on.

Yes, decent power numbers to this point, but you do realize that those won't continue to increase at that rate of he can;t hit the ball, right? Oh yeah, and it's amazing that his decline coincided with the part of the season where Konerko wasn't gonna bat .400 anymore.....hmmmm, what was the real source of his success this year?

It's arguably his 2nd worst season ever by many stats.....and he's "back"? It doesn't work that way.

BTW - check out what the typical "Dunn season" did for his teams. Count up all of the playoffs, pennants, championships.....go on. Count 'em. He's not a valuable piece to a winning team, even when he's "good". Or "back", whatever. :lol:Too many outs, too many "bad outs", clogs the bases, average in the field (at best), etc. Come on. Take the black/white glasses off.......he ain't "back" to anything good.

Using career numbers isn't appropriate in this run environment. In any season, ever, a hitter is judged relative to his peers. If you can't see that a guy rebounding to a level of the top 1-2% of MLB run producers, from a historically, awful, horrendous season as being "back", then you can take your semantical arguments somewhere else. I'm not going to argue with you any further.

Konerko better get used to batting with the bases empty with those 2 hitting 2nd and 3rd.

Would you have done that the day after Kenny signed him? You know, before he saw a pitch in a Sox uniform?

Dunn was one of the most consistent hitters ever. Can't see how you could criticize the move strongly. Kenny has done a lot dumber things.

You took that wrong. Not criticizing the signing at all. It was a good signing at the time, IMO. But Dunn hasn't delivered in the least.

If you wouldn't have made the trade (any trade) the day after Kenny signed him, but now you would - how can he be "back" to what he used to be at that point? It was just over a year ago?

Here's his career OPS+, by year (OPS+ accounts for league averages and park factors)

Code:
2001  136
2002  121
2003  116
2004  147
2005  140
2006  114
2007  136
2008  131
2009  144
2010  138
2011   54
2012  133
----------------
CAREER: 127

Notice anything odd there? Basically Dunn fell off a cliff last year, and has rebounded to his career norms.

He's a "miraculous" forst 2 out of 3 months, and it's lower than 3 out of the previous 4 years before the Sox got him. And keep in mind that everything is plummeting right now for him.

I guess we'll see how it plays out by the end of the year, but there is now way he can be considered "back". You really don't get what I'm saying?

Update:
.208/.353

His career slugging average and his career on-base average are better than most guys who ever played the game.
