Yeah I know bout bOb and pacific...

I don't mean to discount the first 20min of SPR, cus it's still one of the most intense movie experiences I've ever been in a theater for.... Its just, the cast in trl is ridiculous, and there is also that heavily conveyed feeling of dread throughout the film... Plus Nolte. Fucking Nolte goes off in his cameo. Surely wasted.

SPR is a fantastic film..I have seen bits n pieces of TRL and turned it off every time..not even close in comparison..Band of Bros is fantastic..never seen Pacific.

Currently making my way through Band of Brothers. Was shocked (SHOCKED) to see goddamned Jimmy Fallon in part 5! WTF?!

That said, the book is way better.

I got the Military History magazine special edition on the series/Book. It was way cool.
I would follow Carwood Lipton to Hell.
If you have not seen The Pacific please do so. Made by same team as Band of Brothers. Kinda different in that it follows several characters,3 mostly. 2 where authors who wrote of their experiences. The other being Joe Basalonie. Guy won the Navy Cross and Medal of Honor. It has nudity and women in it,something BoB did not lol. ALl in all I liked it as much as Brother.

two completely differently made movies. "saving private ryan", to me, is the "full metal jacket" of WWII movies. it's too familiar but has an amazingly gripping first 30 minutes. once it becomes a "war movie", it's very run of the mill. hanks is great in it, though.

TRL explores...it's almost like "2001" of war movies...it poses questions, it has a lot of inner narrative. it's more of an experience than a film. i really need to watch it again, too...it's been too long.

Its on IfC right now... I did not know Hans Zimmer did the score...

SPR much better, but the fight scenes in TRL are pretty amazing.



As for Band of Bros vs the Pacific, also a no contest, BOB is 10x better. Pacific is ok, but there are a couple wasted episodes and you never get to know any of the characters because they change so often.

The opening song to BOB is the best opening song ever for a tv show imo.

Thin Red Line is my choice over SPR, but I liked them both. BOB is extremely well done.

Didn't know that Zimmer did the music but it is good and I have looked for the soundtrack
before. I would agree with W_Z in that they are different. SPR just blows your hair back
and takes you on a ride. TRL is a bit more introspective and mysterious. It isn't for everyone
as it is more about the images as a Malick film will tend to do and kind of get off track a little
bit. Depending on my mood TRL wins the battle 4 out of 10 times.

i do agree with this, and with the thoughts on "the pacific". it was very uneven overall. they had a lot of chances for you to really like the characters (my favorite part would've been part 3) but they just never captured anybody really well for a good length of time.

the theme to "the pacific" is pretty damn good too.

That is the hard thing and the big difference between BoB and Pacific.
BoB was one source,whereas the Pacific was 2 main sources. Helmet for my Pillow and My life with the Old Breed on Pelilu

they coulda done a whole miniseries on just "helmet for my pillow". that was a great book. leckie is awesome.
