Worth a shot if price is right. However someone will be dumb enough to over pay for a guy with bad knees and a contract that can not be insured.

Brandon Roy wants to come back to the NBA next fall, and teams are lined up to give him a shot.

The three-time All-Star had serious knee issues the last couple years of his career — we’re talking bone-on-bone issues — which caused the Trail Blazers to use their amnesty provision on him. On the advice of doctors, he decided to retire.

But Roy is about as competitive a guy as there is in the league and shutting it down at age 26 was never likely to stick. So a year later he is working out to come back and teams are lined up, reports Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo.

As ex-Portland Trail Blazer Brandon Roy plans his comeback to the NBA, the Chicago Bulls, Dallas Mavericks, Indiana Pacers and Minnesota Timberwolves have emerged as serious suitors to sign the former All-Star guard, league sources told Yahoo! Sports…

The Golden State Warriors have also expressed strong interest with Roy. The Warriors’ general manager, Bob Myers, was Roy’s agent with the Wasserman Media Group.

What is the going rate for Roy? Woj says teams are willing to offer their full mid-level exception, about $5 million a year for teams under the luxury tax threshold (about $70 million) and $3 million for teams over that threshold. The Timberwolves reportedly will offer a two year deal. It’s an interesting risk — if healthy enough to give you regular minutes you add an All-Star level player. Roy — if he returns to his preinjury form — certainly could help the Bulls (who will be without Derrick Rose for half the season after ACL in the first game of the playoffs. Or, a healthy Roy on the Pacers squad could push them up to contender status. And so it goes on down the line. Roy has options.

If they were to sign him to a 1 year deal at the veteran minimium, I wouldn't be opposed, but because some teams have more money to throw around, he'll receive a bigger (probably much bigger) contract than the Bulls can offer.

Wish the Bulls could take a one year minimum deal, but someone is going to give out a bad deal.

Brandon Roy is going to be making a comeback next season. Wise or not. It’s happening.

The only question is where? We’re down to five finalists, according to Adrian Wojnarowski on Yahoo.

The Timberwolves are one of five finalists for Roy, including the Chicago Bulls, Dallas Mavericks, Indiana Pacers and Golden State Warriors.

Meetings with the teams started over the weekend. Minnesota is reportedly offering two years.

It makes sense that teams are willing to role the dice on him and in each case above there is some real logic to the gamble — the Bulls need scoring while Derrick Rose is out injured, Dallas needs back court help (even if they get Deron Williams or Steve Nash), the Warriors need to shake things up. The Timberwolves could use more talent on the roster.

I think the Pacers may be the best fit. They are a deep team on the edge of being very good that just needs a two guard and more offensive weapons. Roy can bring that and take them to the next level.

Well, he can if he’s healthy. The gamble with Roy is simply that he left the league with a chronic knee injury and a year off and treatment may have him feeling good now but what about the All-Star Game? What about the start of the playoffs?

And what kind of contract do you give him with that concern out there?
