Pretty shocking. I would have thought given Bolt's size that he would continue to dominate. But, Yohan Blake looks to be the new man to beat in the Olympics.

Blake had the better strategy in this athletic contest. It was smart to employ the "run faster than everyone else" method. You have to appreciate the "chess game" that is track and field.

 Another track expert. How is that different than every sport with the strategy of have the better players?

Terrible block starts cost Bolt the 100. He only lost in the 200 by .03. Blake also trains better and works more on block starts which matter especially in the 100.

Is that a serious question?

Virtually every sport ever created has more strategy than track and field.

Track is like Golf and Swimming where you can not play defense. No one can stop you from running faster.

You give me the better players in football, basketball, baseball and Ill give you the better coach. Who wins most of the time?

Track work is done through training schedules set up months in advance. It is why someone like Bolt who should never lose a 100 or 200 could conceivably not win both in the Olympics. He's been cutting corners.

There is significantly more strategy in golf. There isn't in swimming.

So just so I'm clear, you think that football, basketball, baseball are equally as strategic as track and field? Please answer yes or no.

Completely false. How can someone keep Tiger from making a shot? What type of defensive technique is employed?

Completely different types of strategy. There is no game day strategy like in football other than if their are prelims possibly conserving energy for finals and not running as fast as you can. You don't just sit around all week and show up at the track and win versus elite competition either.

There is a lot of game day strategy in longer distance races like the 800 and 1500 meters.

At the Olympic level more strategy involved in races like the 5k and 10k. The 800 is basically a long sprint at that level.

There is more to strategy than defensive technique. Choosing your shots based on the conditions, positioning, and current scores are all strategy.

I'll take that as a "no" in terms of track being as strategic.

I'm not saying you just show up and win, but in reality it's just run, throw, jump better than everyone. Even the long distance stuff is incredibly basic strategy that basically says "Don't get too tired".

It's not a bad thing. Track and field has almost no strategy.

You are using track analogies for golf. Their is nothing you can do to keep someone from scoring lower than you. Just as there is nothing you can do to make someone run, jump or throw less.
