Have you really? I've never, ever heard the words Hall of Fame associated with Rizzo in any conversation I've had about him.

You don't have to use the words "Hall of Fame". If you say you expect him to be like a guy who is headed for the Hall of FAme, that makes it pretty clear what your expectations are. I believe I posted a poll on it. I'm sure RPB could pull it up if it suited his agenda.

So no one ever said it.

I wholeheartedly disagree with your assumption too. Lots of guys can be Mark Texiera for a few years and fall off and never go to the Hall of fame.

Talk about agenda, you purposely go out of your way to try and trap Cub fans into saying things by starting polls and threads called "for cub fans only".

We all know your favorite move: Take a former all star fans have soured on and make a comparison. So when the fan says they want Rizzo to be better than 2012 Soriano.....you say "Cub fans think Rizzo is gonna hit 400 homeruns"

It would be a similiar reaction if I asked Sox fans if Sale will be as good as John Danks

Not better. Larger, but not the largest.

It looks bigger next to a small one though

As you proved in the "Dunn is back" thread a good Cubs fan posts incessantly in the other teams section. I want to be like you.

I was told earlier today by a respected board member that the Cubs fanbase was better than most others. Was he wrong?

That isn't a high bar.

Post your own poll and ask if Sox fans think Sale will have a better career than Buehrle. I'll bet there won't be many foolish enough to think so.

No, Sox fans like Buehrle. Thats not your game. Its gotta be someone they've soured on.

And you KNOW it. What if I ran that scam with Javy Vazquez? Sox fans STILL hate that guy.

Danks has been a durable innings eater with a good ERA in the AL for years. Its a decent bar.

Rizzo, I'd take a near .300 average with 25 homers per year for 10 years. That is well below HoF level but good enough to be my first baseman on a playoff team. If he is more than that, great. If he is less than 25 homers, his average better be higher. If his average is much less than say .290, then he better be 30 plus homers. Otherwise, I'll be disappointed.

Chris Sale- wow. I hope he stays healthy because I want to see how good he can be. But I fear two things (as a Cubs fan):

1) He won't stay healthy.
2) I don't like where he delivers the ball (arm angle), and I think hitters will figure out his fastball and hit it a long way. I think they will learn (like with Marmol) to lay off pitches out of the zone and tee up stuff that stays in the zone. But I can't wait to see!

I'd want Sale to be more than Danks, if I was a Sox fan. Sale needs to be a #1 pitcher at this point. Like my other post, I can't wait to see what happens with him, close to must watch tv when he pitches.

I also don't know what kid gloves are. When you have a kid do you have to use some sort of special gloves?

I've never heard a good pitcher referred to as an "innings eater".

But you're kind of making my point. The hatred Cub fans have for some pretty good players is irrational. Theo told Speigel that about Soriano. You believe Theo, don't you?

I agree that Sox fans have an irrational hatred of Vazquez. But that's an isolated case and it was caused mainly by idiot Guillen and his big mouth.

Vazquez pissed down his pantleg numerous times during the stretch run in 2008. Lost some crucial games for them late in the year, and gave the 3 runs DeWayne Wise spotted him in the ALDS right back to the Rays.

He is small game Javy. Any big game he is on the mound, bet against him bigtime.

I'll weigh in on the Cubs fan base.

Having been to many games at both Chicago parks and Cubs games at about half of the MLB stadiums, Cubs fans clearly support their team more than most. There are notable sized Cubs crowds at every stadium that I go to. The fans are very obnoxious with the "let's go Cubbies" chant directed at the home team fans. They are generally loud and drunk with a complete disregard for people around them. Obviously fans like me that travel to other stadiums are there for a real good time and on a drunken road trip. So it may not be the best subset.

I find fans at Wrigley to often be less interested in the game than at other stadiums. People are focused on the group around them and their smart phones. They don't know many of the players on the field, and they definitely don't know the pitching match-up or anything about the visiting team. As a hard core baseball guy, I am annoyed by this.

I see a lot less of this activity in other stadiums because I think the fans that show up are truly there for the game, not just the atmosphere.

I didn't say better. You said better.

I said that they cared more. But, it could just be that there are so many more Cub fans that a subset that cares more is more likely to be noticed just due to sheer numbers.

If you define "better", I will answer.

And, if I were being treated with kid gloves, then I'd be getting knocked out what with me being a motherfucka'.

SomeGuy, please create a new thread for this definition.

We all know what makes a good fan base and what makes a bad fan base. Support, devotion, knowledge, not committing criminal acts, attendance, economic status, number of tattoos, number of fans who don't know the game, not being from Miami. There are a ton of ways to define it.

Pick whatever criteria you want and tell me if you think the Cubs fan base is better than most. Then, prepare to be "rpd'd" for your answer.

I think there are more Cub fans than any other team in MLB besides the Yankees.

Due to the number of fans there are significant numbers that -

- care a lot and are very knowledgeable
- love to review minor league statistics
- like to go to Wrigley Field and drink beer with their bros
- don't give a shit about the team but think it will be an awesome party when they win
- still own Kevin Orie jerseys
- have murdered a guy

No individual Cub fan is better than some specific individual fan of some other specific team.

So, by the numbers, the Cubs fanbase is the second worst and second best in baseball?

Not necessarily. What would make them second worst?

They've demonstrated through support over the past few decades that they have a devoted fanbase that will attend games all over the country. The ratings for their playoff appearances have been huge.

So, there is evidence that they are very good. There is less evidence that large groups of them are very bad.

And some subset enjoy montioring minor league performance. Oh yes, that's your evidence of bad fandom - so, there's them.

Im sorry that i can see faults in my own team and praise other teams. I know thats not how you do it.

According to you Kenny Williams is one of the elite GM's in the league, Reinsdorf is a great owner, the White Sox are a great organization (what's 87 years?) with great fans that NEVER overreact to anything and the announcer is perfect. The two most prolific homerun hitters in the teams history who played thru the steroid era, are unquestionable squeaky clean.

You're the most positive fan of a team Ive ever encountered.

It was just a joke about your point that the Cubs fanbase has, by numbers alone, a higher total number of people who reflect positive fan characteristics. They would then also have a higher total number of people who reflect negative fan characteristics. For instance, there are likely more convicted felons who are Cubs fans than anyone but the Yankees(laugh out loud).

Anyways, it's a simple question. Do you think the Cubs fanbase is better than almost all other fanbases? rogers park bryan says they aren't. Do you agree?

White Sox fans kind of suck. The announcer is awesome, though for entertainment as much as anything.

Ken Griffey Jr. and Frank Thomas were clean. That is who you were talking about right?
