Any suggestions? The biggest I can go with is a 39 inch for my stand. My current is a 32 inch. I live in an apartment and have no interest in trying to wall mount something bigger.

Saw this one for 328 dollars.

Emerson 39" Class LCD 1080p 60Hz HDTV, LC391EM3

I had an Emerson tube TV for 12 years and it served me well, so it's not the brand that matters in your case.
The only thing I'd be concerned about is the 60Hz, especially if you watch alot of live sports. It can be blurry.
I had a 60HZ LCD HDTV, and when that crapped out, we got the Sony Bravia 120Hz, and you can totally tell
the difference. This one is a 37" refurb, but I've had nothing but quality products from TigerDirect, and it's close
to your price range. Vizio is a good brand.

Let the class know, and good luck.

I watch a lot of sporting events and video so that is good to know. Will help with my search.

Not to spoil the party but unless you are getting HD with a service or HD with an antenna I wouldn't buy an HDTV. Standard definition does not look as good on an HDTV as it does on a standard definition TV. A lot of the new TVs will be worthless in 5 years. The older TVs, while most are heavy and not high def or widescreen are actually quite serviceable for $1 from the Good Will. The other thing I would mention is that because of the dimension differences a 30" widescreen only feels like 20 something inch square TV.

Mini Ditkbrain was right about the SD stuff. A lot of older shows look really bad on the HDTV. But a lot of stuff is now in HD, so that shouldn't be a deterrent.

This is kind of a shitty time to be buying TV's (black friday is your best bet) but if you're gonna get one, go all out. I have a 42" LG plasma and it was a hard lesson learned - never buying a plasma again. It's a solid TV but burn in is a real problem.

One thing that sucks about upgrading your TV is that you're going to end up upgrading everything else - your cable package needs to get moved up to include HD, you'll want to get a blu-ray player, etc.

This isn't really the case any more. My Walmart was selling 32" HDTV's for $200 a Month ago. They were $199 on black friday. TV prices have plummeted & are expected to continue to fall. Right now Walmart has free shipping on TV's & they have a huge refurbished TV section if you want to go that route due to budget constraints.

Ended up going with the one I initially thought about getting. Haven't tried playing Video games on it but it has been good so far.
