2.) He was overpaid, but at the time our roster was just collecting assets. We weren't really rebuilding or contending. His contract wasn't what was wrong with the mid decade Bulls teams.

No, I did not like the drafting of him...the over paying of him..the refusal to let him go and combined with Gordon love ..the team was 42 game scrub in the east most years...I would rather suck and draft higher.

I agree that they should have moved Deng for a lottery pick, then sucked this year to get back in the lottery. Not sure how close they got to moving Deng or how serious they were.

Hinrich was in the same draft as Wade and Paxson failed to trade up to get him, although he tried.

What would the team have looked like if Gordon excepted his retarded offer of 55 million/5 years...Deng and Boozer over paid..over paid hinrich, tried to over pay gordon...overpaid noah...hired Vinny..Hired Boylan, Signed Ben Wallace while letting the younger/better version Chandler go...You take Rose ( very lucky) to get hm ...and this team is still a 6th seed int he east and what most people call NBA hell.

It's hard to argue in favor of Paxson. Maybe that's why they "promoted" him?? 312's points are well taken in that Pax did overpay and the points about him being a "play it safe" type are true as well.

The bottom line is the Bulls right now lack a legit #2 star to team opposite Rose and until they get that guy, they are fucked.

If they could have parlayed Deng in a lottery pick and then tanked this season, they could have been in a position to have this years lottery pick (for Deng) a lottery pick next year, and money off the books for a major free agent (after trading Deng then dumping Boozer via amnesty).

Instead, they are now in NBA Hell.

"NBA Hell" refers to mid-2000 Bulls, or teams like the current Pacers, Bucks, Nuggets, etc. Its a deep team of "grinders" that outhustles it's opponents primarily just to finish around .500. It's called NBA Hell because they have no chance of winning the championship or getting a superstar. YOU CAN'T HAVE A PLAYER AS GOOD AS DERRICK ROSE AND STILL BE IN NBA HELL. YOU CAN'T HAVE THE BEST RECORD IN THE NBA FOR TWO CONSECUTIVE SEASONS AND STILL BE IN NBA HELL. Stop abusing that term.

If he's healthy and not over the hill, which he could be, it will be a decent pickup - he's a solid defender, and the Bulls believe that he can run the team better than Watson. So far, Brewer is replaced by Butler, Watson is replaced by Hinrich (for close to the same money so this is a basketball decision in that sense), and the Bulls are looking at Gerald Green or Michael Redd to replace Kyle Korver (this would be a financial move). All in all, this is still a team, that just can't create offense in the half-court, and will be dependent of defense/rebounding/depth.

They could still match on Asik, and there is already speculation (KC Johnson shared this) that they could move Hinrich to SG when Rose returns, which could make Hamilton a possibility to be moved at the deadline, helping the Bulls avoid the tax. Even if they match on Asik, and keep Hamilton for next season, they won't be huge tax payers, but it will depend on their appetite for paying at all.

The Bulls aren't in the 9th Circle of Hell like the Bobcats, nor are they in the 8th Circle like Milwaukee. They're not like Denver in the 7th Circle or like Orlando in the 6th Circle. The Knicks are the 5th Circle so it's not like that. Atlanta is in the 4th Circle and the Jazz are in the 3rd Circle, so no go there. They're not quite Indiana in the 2nd Circle.

The Bulls are in the 1st Circle of NBA Hell.

Disagree. The Utah Jazz teams with Deron Williams/Carlos Boozer were very good NBA teams, always had good playoff runs, but never were good enough to beat the best in the West. That was their team because of financial decisions, and they weren't able/willing to alter it and they came up short every year. Chicago could have beaten Miami this season with Rose (we'll never know), but lost to them last year, and probably won't be a serious contender this year.

Deron was never as good as Rose is and Utah never came close to the best record in the league. Bad analogy BD.

Every team except 2-3 in the NBA would switch rosters with the Bulls right now. This thread is exactly what I'm talking about when I told Brick there was a certain Chicago sports fan way of viewing things.
