This can be a running thread for the "Larry and Bernstein" week. Site every example here. Caught this one.

Larry: Dan, you should write a blog about your days in North Carolina. You have some really, really, really, really great stories. It would be soooooooooooooooo great. You can talk about, I don't know, stuff that happened. People would really, really like it. You have so many good stories. You're soooooooooo great.

Yeah, I was gonna post about that one. Kinda creepy. Sounded like his chin was resting on his hands when he said that.

I know Larry is gonna read this thread and cast me off as a crazy cracker. That's the easy and simple thing for him to do.

Seriously, Larry, with regard to you sucking up to Berntein: Have you no shame? Really? You don't think everybody at the station knows what's going on? You don't think listeners see through it? You don't even try to hide it for the love of God. It's so obvious. Christ, Berntein knows it.

If you honestly think this is the only way you can replace Boers eventually, it's sad. Have some god damn pride and dignity. What would Malcolm X say if he were alive to see this?

Please do not even joke about Larry replacing Boers.

Beardown: You know why I feel the need to call you out about this, Larry?

Larry: Why is that, cracker?

Beardown: Because you were the guy that said T-Dub shuffled for the white people at the Score. You pretty much called him an "Uncle Tom". Talk about the pot calling the kettle black.

Larry:

Beardown: It's true. You know it.

Larry:

Unfortunately, I think he'd be a favorite. There's really not much to choose from if they gave him a partner. I can't believe Goff would get a job like that, he's much better dropping in on that show with a dumb joke. I doubt they are hiring from outside when the time comes.

This is an attempt at sucking up that backfired.

Apparently Laurence doesnt understand BAPIP.

He asked Dan to look up Peavy's

Dan: I found Peavy's BAPIP...UH OH....UH OH

Laurence: Oh man its that bad? Is it over .300?

Dan: No, its UNDER .300 thats why Im worried.

Laurence: Oh man (pretending to understand)

I think it's tragically clear that Larry will replace Boers. Mitch loves him, and I don't know that a Dan solo show could work long-term. The best pairing would be McNeil and Bernstein, but then what do you do middays? You can't hand the gig to anyone but Larry because of seniority, and a Spiegel/Larry pairing is dead weight.

Rozner works well with Spiegs.

I guess that could work. Who drives that show, though? I'm just not sure anyone at the station thinks of Rozner as a full-timer.

I'd have Spiegs drive like Hit and Ralph.

If Mitch and the brass don't think of Rozner as a full timer, that's to their detriment.

Goff won't get it. He's basically the 3rd host on the afternoon show right now on a producer's salary. Mitch's attitude: Why buy the cow when you get the milk for free. In my opinion, Goff is spoiled milk anyway.

Drink has no chance in hell. His bitter, angry, pissy attitude has gotten worse over the last few years. They're not gonna reward that. Bernstein wouldn't allow it. Drink wouldn't be good anyway.

Rozner and Rosie have an outside chance cuz Bernstien likes them for the obvious reason.

We're most likely trending towords a Larry and Bernstein pairing if and when Boers dies or retires. The only thing that would upset that is if Mitch gets fired. A new GM wouldn't like Larry and he'd have his own plans anyway. He'd want to make his own mark on the station. Get away from "Bernstein radio" and the "Bernstein clones". Most likely a new GM would have friends in the business that he'd want to hook up. So it's pretty much a race the way I see it. If Terry out lasts Mitch, Larry won't get the afternoon show.

Rozner would be the other guy who could figure in. I'm indifferent to him, and I can't say I would look foward to stories of whose wife runs things more, but he doesn't bring the wannabe Bernstein/tough guy act that we get from Holmes.

I wish we could say "fuck seniority," but like I said in another post, the Score is a bunch of people who didn't grow beyond high school when it comes to that "I waited and now it's my turn, irrespective of merit" mentality.

They'd have to know better than to give Larry another major daypart, right?

Larry is a weed. A radio cockroach. He's been there forever. He wouldn't be dumb like North and say fuck you if they lowballed him. Holmes knows the limits of his talents quite well I suspect. He has no family to support so he could afford to take any droppings the station might toss his way if Rosen left. Isn't Murph the only long time guy they axed? He was basically a pariah at the station by that point and was hated by the station's swinging dick Dan Bernstein. I'm sure Dan looks down upon Larry but probably has a minor iota of affection for him since he is a complete sycophant. Goff and Drinky will try to argue with Dan and undermine him while Larry just wipes his chin and swallows.

There is some truth to that. Let's face it. Berntein has had a weird obsession with black people and black culture for years. He likes to talk in ebonics when talking to black people or discussing hip hop, rap and basketball with Jason. He likes to stereotype all black women as "Valupuous" as he did with Jason the other day to which Jason kind of called him a racist for saying that.

Anyway, Bernstein probably takes some sick satisfaction that he has a black guy that adores and worships him. One that looks to him for approval, strokes his ego and repeats everything he says.

That being said, he also has to go home to his wife and say "My God, Laurence is in love with me." and get a little creeped out by it as well.

Was that your reaction when Bernstein said the same thing of Theo Epstein and Mayor Emanuel?

Rozner seems popular among the station chiefs (Bernstein in particular, which is what really matters), and I've never had a problem with him, but I just can't see him holding down a weekday show full-time. Put him and Spiegel together, and Bears talk is a total dead zone from 9-1 (which I assume would be a problem for the self-described BEARS STATION for BEARS TALK with BEARS FANS) because Spiegel is basically a fantasy guy and Rozner's as bad on the NFL as McNeil is on the NBA. A couple weeks ago, Rozner said "Brandon Marshall is so good that there have been times over the past few seasons when I thought he was the best player in the league." Even by Score standards, that's indefensibly stupid.

Yeah, Mac/Spiegs and Bernstein/Rozner end up being the best divisions of labor when it comes to sports coverage, with each complementing the other's weaknesses (except I'm not convinced Bernstein is much of a football guy no matter how much he says the Mike is hitting landmarks). You could get away with Rozner being weak on football in afternoons because that's so guest-heavy and caller-heavy that it's not incumbent on the hosts to drive discussion that much. Not like Terry is Mr. Football himself, either.

Bernstein is strictly a Bears guy. Ditto Goff. They like to play up their NFL expertise, but the afternoon show as a whole is stupefyingly ignorant about the other 31 teams.

True. But sliding Rozner into Boers's spot doesn't solve The Larry Problem, which, appropriately, sounds like one of the chapters in a Gladwell book.

I read that one. I think his conclusion, through a bunch of uncited sources and pop-psych jargon, was that The Larry Problem ultimately has a lot to do with race.
