The spring book was released today. Among men 25-54, the Score whipped ESPN's ass in all three major dayparts. And at nights. And on weekends. The only station ahead of Spiegs & me is the Drive (and they don't even play any of that "cool" music). Congrats to Matt, Jay, Ben & Nick for being great showmates.

ESPN has rules about carrying national programming. They sell national ads predicated on the idea that they'll be heard...nationally. If Mike & Mike can't be heard in the #3 market, or can only be heard by the sorts of degenerates who had a bad run-in with the Grobber or something, then Bristol can't bill as much and they will be rather cross. Remember that 1000 isn't an affiliate of ESPN per se, and is rather an O&O of the network, just like 2/5/7/32 are owned and operated outright by their respective networks. O&Os are the flagships of networks and don't get to stray from what the network wants like independently-owned affiliates might. There are fewer middlemen between Bristol and Chicago than there are between, say, Bristol and Milwaukee, or Bristol and Cleveland. I presume the same is the case in New York and Los Angeles.

It seems like 1000 is already getting special dispensation to roll with as much local programming as they do so as to compete with the Score. Having their second show be the SVP hour is a nice break.

But M&M didn't have a better show 5 years ago than they do now. It's the exact same show. So when they were beating the Score regularly it probably spoke more to the lack of quality of North's show than it did the quality of their show.

Similarly, I think what some people are saying here is that the Score beating 1000 speaks more to the lack of quality at 1000. The Score should be a much better sports station, and JORR has pretty much nailed the reason for that. But as long as you guys beat the vanilla shitshake of a show that 1000 puts out you're content. Can't say I blame you, I just wouldn't make the mistake of thinking those ratings indicating that the listeners are thoroughly satisfied with the product you guys put out.

Same here. Plus the girlfriend and I are getting ready at the same time in the mornings and she enjoys M&M also. It's convenient that it's on ESPN2. I've said this about a dozen times here but I don't think the tv audiences are incorporated into the ratings, which is potentially a big factor.

I can not for the life of me understand why anyone who wants sporting knowledge would listen to the score vs. ESPN, other than B&B. Waddle and Silvy & M&M offer way more than the score in those terms.

What sports knowledge do you glean from Silvy and Waddle?
