I stopped in for the opening yesterday. It's kind of strange to see a Sonic pop up in the middle of a parking lot, but stranger things have happened.

True enough, D, true enough, indeed.

What did you order?

What did you think of the food?

1.)Presentation?
2.)Service?
3.)Price?

I always order drinks at Sonic (typically a Cherry Slushie). I've never been particularly impressed with their food.

1. I usually go with the drive-thru, but I found entering a stall took just about the same amount of time yesterday.
2. The service is always a little better when they first open because the management is pushing the people to be on their game. Granted you're going to wait because of the initial crowds, but everything has a price.
3. I only go to Sonic during Happy Hour from 2 to 5 for half price slushies and drinks or after 8 for half price shakes. I see no reason to go there for anything other than a slushie or a shake. It's just crappy little fast food and not worth spending the big bucks on. It's not nearly as good as Chick-Fil-A.

Always liked Sonic, more than any other McBKendys type of joint, but never driving to find one. Just as the other joints.

I'm with you on this. DQ, Sonic, AW etc are places I will go to over a McDonalds or whatever. But yeah, I'm not going to drive an extra 10 miles to eat at one of them. It just isn't worth it.

What the Chicago area really needs is In-N-Out Burger!

Smashburger is not better than In-N-Out Burger. In a few years Smashburger will be out of business.

There were a lot of Sonics in mid-MO. I didn't really get the big deal.

Smashburger is great. Its definitely not as good as In-N-Out Burger, but its probably the best fast food Burger chain in our area. Its definitely better than Five Guys.

In Texas In n Out is equivalent to BK or Wendy's. I keep hearing how great they are on the west coast. I'm surprised there would be such a gap in quality between the areas.

I'd love for Whattaburger or Jack in The Box to come to Chicago.

When I was a kid, Jack in the Box was in Chicago. I still remember the one across the street from Little Company of Mary's Hospital in Evergreen Park. If I remember right, there was some kind of very serious food poisoning incident and they closed all of the restaurants in the Chicago area. Little fuzzy on the details of that, however ...

Five Guys was only ok when I tired it up here in Gurnee. A burger is a burger is a burger at any
of these joints as far as I can tell. I agree with going to an A&W or similar place rather than the
usual suspects though.

Because it's expensive and they have no drive thrus. I didn't find the food to be worth returning for either.

On my recent summer trip/road trip. I ate at a sonic twice (once by choice in Savannah, once, out of no other choice, in the middle of nowhere Virginia).
I thought the jalapeno cheeseburger was great...and pretty much everything else sucked.

Subway is the largest fast food chain in the world, and they don't have a drive thru. I don't think lacking a drive thru will be a problem for Smashburger.

The average size of a Subway is very small. It probably doesn't cost them much to be profitable. The three Taco Bells without drive thrus that I remember are all out of business. Smashburger has opened up almost all its locations in the last 5 years. I don't think they will do enough business to stay open over the long term.
