I understand crying from the subject material but the reason that Dan was crying was because it was pointed out to him directly that his show has made people generate action/awareness of a broader issue. I understand, but...

I dunno. It's not about being unmanly or anything, more so just not a fan of the validation of endless PSU talk for months.

It seemed very self-congratulatory and the sniffling sounded...fake. Like someone calling into work and adding a few coughs and sniffles to make it sound "legit."

I also find it hard to believe that he actually thinks he's making anyone aware of this. Like they wouldn't have heard about it otherwise.

Seemed fake. He definitely played it up to let the listeners know he was moved to tears.

It's like he hasn't felt this important since he stopped being a journalist.

whoa laurence saying YES to every point in the first crap is really annoying.... i've seen other people mention it here, so is it a "thing" where laurence talks over all the craps and interjects himself into the process?

I'm sure Dan will take that as vindication for talking about it all the fucking time, not that I'm sure he needed it.

Yes. He wants us all to know that he gets the joke. If that involves raucously laughing before the joke has been told, so be it.

wow laurence is stepping up and speaking for "the community" and what "they" stand up for. does anyone else see the fundamental oxymoron in him speaking about what the community dis/likes and then calling them they?

SIR LARRY OF SHAKE THAT, WHO YOU CRAPPIN?!!?!

and who thought that dan would get the terry's manometer location wrong this week? you can put it on the board.

Just guessing here... But as if Bernsie wants they kill PSU athletics for some time... I do not think it will be a "cooling off period" as he thinks. They will lay in the woods and make that Nebraska game seem like nothing when they return. They "PSU nation" will lay in the weeds and come back bigger than ever.

Yeah, I actually went and checked my facts, and the week of june 14th-20th espn spent 45 seconds on the jerry sandusky trial which had begun testimony from the victims...

So... I mean Deadspin does few things well, but the one thing they do a great job of is covering espn's bullshittedness...

Once the verdict was handed out, that's when espn became invested...

We need a child rape subforum on the board. Enough is enough! We are all b&b fans here and dan told us to stand up and take action against child rape, not to mention have lunch with quad cities pat, and therefore I'm thinking that there are so many posts on this board that don't speak of the issue of child rape we need to have a special corner of the board that sheds some light on child rape.

If you're using google and not searching on child rape, then you're not helping where you SHOULD be helping. Ergo, you're fostering and promoting child rape by not actively thwarting it. Thank you black baby jesus. Also, black baby jesus, can you have a word with st peter at the gates and have him listen to b&b from 1-6 weekdays on 670 the score so he can get a list of the names that need to be crossed off of his list? If heaven is not actively fighting childrape then heaven is promoting child rape, and if there's support of child rape in heaven, well then, I think everyone needs to have a Freeh investigation.

So wait wait... wait.... This is humor in the form of a satirical jibe about child rape awareness?

Please more trolling. You are the king.

Loved the caller who starts the call by saying he's watching Comcast and thought the Man vs Food guy was on but then realized it was WSCR Cardinal fan Chris Rongey.
I've always thought Rongey could be a stunt double for Jared from Subway but I think the guys point was that Rongey has really packed on the pounds.
Maybe he's on the Taco Bell diet.

If I'm Mully and Hanley I wear out the Bernstein "crying" drop.

please, more posts about how i'm on cocaine hard liquor and pharmaceuticals! you, mon frere, are the king! please bring awareness to the REAL issue here.... not child rape, but the fact that i'm atypical and therefore on some sort of molotov cocktail of barbituates!

jbills, ask yourself, what have YOU done to shed light on the very real and serious issue of child rape today? see you can question my methodology and call me a "troll" --- however, anyone who has read my messages is thinking child rape, and if you're thinking child rape, you're aware of child rape, and well, my work here is done.

also, child rape. <---- there's your trolling, sir.

I wasn't telling you to get yer facts straight buddy. I didn't believe Deadspin. And I'm still not sure I do.

But maybe my alcohol-addled brain has meshes the time pre and post trial into one big soupy mess.

Either way, I don't give a DAMN WHAT YOU THINK YOU ARE ENTITLED TO!

The trial really doesn't have anything to do with sports. I'm glad ESPN didn't cover it. CNN did. Next people will bitch about the lack of election coverage by ESPN this fall. It's getting a bit ridiculous.

Its def both a news and sports story. The penn state program would not hve seen the success of the last decade had this issue been handled when it first blew up in 1998.

Please tho. Im not getting into this shit right now...

Ok, that's a sports angle to it. Its even an interesting one. But none of the sports media(Deadspin, BB, Espn, etc) has covered that angle. They are all covering it like a hard news story. That's not their job and it's not why I tune into espn. If I want current event news I'll watch news channels. Most people are bright enough to figure out the different purposes of different types of networks. I guess others want all of their info/news to come from one specific channel.

Everything isn't so black and white to me.

You're kinda speaking about what you want personally... Opinions vary, but it's a little offputting for espn to have a blackout on the trial, but then as soon as the verdict comes out, BaM, they are all over it.

That's my complaint. EsPn sticking their heads in the ground to protect Penn St.'s recruiting ability. That's kind of a hidden motivation to me...

Everyone is talking about what they want personally. You, me, Bernstein, etc. I don't get your point.

I don't think espn gives a shit about Penn St's recruiting. When they are terrible it really doesn't effect interest in college football. I agree they shouldn't have jumped in after the verdict. They really don't need to be covering this story at all outside the sports ramifications of it. I don't take espn seriously enough to expect them to cover this well. You shouldn't either. Sports journalism is called "the toy department" of writing for a reason. Mac gets that. Bernstein doesn't.

So your thoughts on...

Kobe rape trial? Which was covered night and day by espn.

Pacman Jones being a fucking idiot? Also covered any time a court date was announced.

I don't think you can have it both ways with this story and still claim to have a valid opinion on the subject.

I'm not having it both ways. You're just unsure what we are talking about. That's ok.

Kobe was playing a season and flying to court dates in between games. Not to mention the possibility of one of the best players of all time in any sport could have gone to prison for years in his prime.

Pacman Jones wasnt covered like crazy. When he did dumb shit espn reported that he did dumb shit again and moved on.

If you think those two examples are anywhere close to as serious as the Sandusky case you are sadly mistaken. You can't say the PSU thing is too serious and too important to cover and then compare it to Pacman making it rain at a club. I don't think you can have it both ways with this story and still claim to have a valid opinion on the subject.
