In case you can't tell, I'm having an absolute ball this week with almost no games to dissect. I meant it when I said I've taken the wrong approach the past half dozen years ago... getting out of town during the so-called abyss.

To Walkrman5's point in another thread about talking sports being my job... I want to say a few things. And this isn't written with an overly-defensive tone or with anger...merely an explanation. Nowhere is it written in my employment contract that the content of my show be predominantly sports. Yes, I work at a sports station and it's probably what I'm best qualified to do. However, my program directors have given me a long leash for a long time as I drift into "guy talk." I don't dislike talking sports and I'm grateful for the job I have. During these "slower" times, however, it is most enjoyable for me to take departures and talk to people like Dan Akroyd, Lin Brehmer and Greg Kot about movies and music. The Stones' 50th anniversary today was a blast and I stand by my decision to play it up as I did. I also am grateful Jason played along willingly because they're not his thing.

As for Penn State, and a bunch of texters got on me for not doing more on it, plausible arguments can be made it's not even a SPORTS story. Furthermore, it's not the kind of story that fits my show's mantra. We're about having a party between 9 and 1. There are other shows that take a newsier approach. The diversity at the Score right now is one of the biggest reasons we've had unprecedented ratings success. Every show is good at what it does and what we all do is different.

My job is not necessarily to talk sports; it's to build ratings and revenue. I'm enjoying doing both. To those of you who haven't been happy with it lately, well... baseball and the Bears are right around the corner. To those who've reached out to me at the Score or @danmcneil670 to say thanks for the entertainment, I say, that's my job.

The Stones talk into the Penn State imbroglio would have been an awkard segue, anyway. Now, if it were Gary Glitter's 50th anniversary...

Love the subtle shot at Bernsie.

So was I right when I said if I had to guess I would guess you dont personally consider the Penn St thing a sports story anymore? I dont. I think you were right today on the show to point out that the only thing worth discussing is what the NCAA penalty should be for PSU going forward.

Im a fan of Akroyd and sorta the stones, but I generally don't listen when you guys aren't focused on sports talk...

I mean, I used to not listen at all after the JW fiasco a few years ago, so this is an improvement.

Overall, Mac, I do see your ability to drive a show now that you aren't so substance abusey... Im a fan. Oh fuck I said it.

Shoutout to Spiegs for pushing the basketball talk.

I'm on the Mac train.

There's a reason I don't listen to 'BBM in the car. I'm not looking to escape back into the real world. Child rape is too real world for me.

I've been loving the show lately, Mac. You are just what the Dr. ordered.

Just don't have Cowley on ever again. Don't do it!

Show has been very enjoyable past few weeks. The interviews have really stuck out. The Alice Cooper interview was great and I don't even like his music. And, of course, the Michael Irvin interview was hilarious.

The show was excellent today. Tribute concerts guarantee a good show for a few days.

I was off the Danny Mac train for a while. Then you were gone and Spiegs was absolutely on fire and I wasn't sure I wanted you back.

Fast forward to the post-rehab Mac and the difference has been astonishing. You've been more engaged and energized and it's been a joy to listen to.

I am fully back on the Mac train.

My turn is after SomeGuy.

Nope. It's the truth. Spiegs and Goff and even SHAKE THAT were great.

Well now we know you are lying. Gotta keep it in the realm of possibility. That's like telling someone you killed a bear, and then when they sound skeptical, claiming you also killed a Martian the same day.

I'm gonna go find those shows. I'm pretty sure I liked SHAKE THAT with Spiegs.

Or maybe I licked SHAKE THAT.

I dunno...

He gets it. At 44 years old, I want a show that geared towards "guy talk" with "sports talk". We have a million stations to listen to about where Dwight Howard is going, that JoePa was an asshole, Theo's rebuilding plan and that Hester's cousin was arrested and what that means for the Bears.

Please if you could only show me 20 of these million chicago local stations I would feel better about your comment.
