Boozer will likely be amnestied after 2013-2014 season, and Deng is up after the 2013-2014 season. Asik becomes a trade chip in the last year of his deal or they can let his contract expire.

My one concern is that matching Asik has consequences - not signing Gibson and/or moving Noah. I do have major concerns with the money, if Gibson is resigned, that is allocated in the front court, especially with so much tied into depth.

With the European plan coming in a few seasons, and the Charlotte pick (which I think will eventually be moved), they do have assets for the future as well, but I do see them setting up for a adding a major player in 2014 - whether it's using Asik's expiring deal and/or cap room created by letting their veterans walk.

I believe he is worth double the money he will be getting in the 3rd year of this deal

Hypothetically, wouldn't the last year for Omer be a great trade for cap relief contract?

If the Bulls are going to target 2 or 3 years from now to be elite, that could be useful at the deadline.

My understanding of the league now is that expiring deals don't carry nearly the weight they used to. There's too much bad money floating around that there's so many of those deals every year. I think the cap hindrance outweighs any small benefit that might come 30 months from now.

I read the Rockets are hoping that the Bulls and Knicks match on their Lin and Omer deals because they want more cap room to trade for Supergirl. But as good faith to the rest of the league they can't renege on offering the contracts because it would make them look terrible around the league. As much as I love Omer I hope that Gar drops that 15 M turd of that 3rd year on that contract right back on Daryl Morey.

Not cap relief - I doubt any team under the cap would take on Omer. It does allow the Bulls though to offer another team cap relief in trading Omer, in the last year of his deal, for a player making similar money, around the $14M number, who is in multi-year contract. For example, the Nets deal for Joe Johnson, where they traded players in the last year of thier deal for Johnson, who has another 3 years left at big money.

Houston couldn't officially offer it until they got Camby off their books. He's expected to sign it today or tomorrow.

Maybe I didn't make it clear, but isn't that exactly what I was saying? Omer is trade bait in that final year for those looking for cap relief.

Basically, his value is as an expiring contract then.

Is there not something fundamentally wrong with how NBA free agency works? You are basically overpaying to keep a guy so in a few years you can get rid of that same guy. Then once you get rid of the guy in few years you make a run at a big free agent who will go elsewhere and you start the 3 year process again.

It may make for a boring off season but it seems like players should have to get 10 seasons of service time before being granted free agency. Contracts would be adjusted through an arbitration process similar to baseball. The stars would then be spread out, teams could actually develop players over time. I'm sure the union would never allow it.

10 years is insane. By that time they are already on the down side of their career. Plus alot of NBA GM's are terrible. Thats why star players leave. LeBron didnt leave Cleveland because its a small market. He left because Danny Ferry was an atrocios GM who used up all Cleveland's cap space and never gave LeBron a better player than Moe Williams to play with.
