Brent Musburger bashed Paterno. So did that black guy who sits next to Lou Hotz on that college show (I forget his name). Matt Millen still looks like a deer in headlights with his responses. He's all over the place, not making sense, still trying to find ways to apologize for Paterno.

Still, looks like everybody has seen the light. Paterno is getting bashed nationally. Not just ESPN, but all of the big time sports websites are destroying him.

National Media: Hey Team Bernstein, we're coming in!!!!

Was ESPN, or analysts on ESPN, defending Paterno and/or the school's role in this OR reserving judgment until the jury/report were released? Is reserving judgment showing support for Paterno / Penn St?

I haven't followed their coverage (or lack of) on this story, but a constant criticism of the media is how quickly they react without regard to all of the facts in the case.

I know ESPN is financially involved with college sports so one could argue the conflict of interest here, but I'm just not sure, on the flip side, if we needed countless hours of radio indicting Sandusky, Paterno and Penn St. as well - there wasn't much of a controversy amongst 99% of people, especially as more and more facts came out about the role that some of these people had in keeping this quiet.

FYI - You're referring to Mark May, who usually right about once a month on something in his analysis.

You make valid points.

I haven't watched sportscenter much over the last 5 years so. I only go there when big sports stories happen or big games. I don't care to watch daily highlights anymore.

I do remember when the story broke that it seemed like ESPN had an agenda to protect Joe Paterno. So they aired the voices of their commentators that wanted to speak up for Paterno.

After yesterday, it seems to me, that ESPN told their people to give their honest thoughts on it cuz it was now safe.

This brings up the whole debate as to whether this is a sports story, criminal story, or a combination.

I'm not surprised that ESPN would be cautious, or that football analysts on their network would make arguments supporting Paterno when this first came to light, but I'm also a bit skeptical of Bernstein, who clearly has an axe to grind with ESPN, always being so critical of them, no matter the issue. I think he would had an issue with their coverage of it no matter what.

Deadspin did a great job of carving up Matt Millen. Stupid people are really exposed in situations like this one.

Guys, that "black guy" who sits next to Lou Holtz on ESPN's "College Football Scoreboard" during the college football season is Mark May. Hope that helps. They have so many people on the network's college football coverage, you need a scorecard to figure out who's who.

What a sackless network. Sure, now they come down like the Old Testament on Paterno and Penn St. They've been hammering Penn St and JoePa all weekend on the radio. They wouldn't touch this story until they had an abundance of damning evidence on Paterno.
