Has anybody ever heard of the racial slur "Monday?" I have to admit, this is a new one to me.

Apparently, an off duty Police Officer in The Commonwealth has been suspended "after an internal investigation found that he directed a racial slur at Boston Red Sox outfielder Carl Crawford."

"Witnesses said a heckling fan called Crawford, who is black, a "monday" before a game between the New Hampshire Fisher Cats and Portland Sea Dogs. Crawford said he interpreted the word as a racial slur."

This seems crazy to me, but what do I know? I am definitely for equal rights and the right not to be called a day of the week. Martin Luther King must be spinning in his grave at this injustice against Carl Crawford, who must think of himself as a Friday or Saturday.

What about Wednesday? That is kind of a lame day.

Yeah I've heard of it a couple times on tv. Never heard anyone actually use it in person.

I would definitely be a Friday.

The joke is really on the racist, because he sounds like an idiot in my opinion. It is like a subtle little twist of fate.

What is next - using unpopular vegetables like broccoli?

Would it be racist to call someone an "IMU" for the same reason?

Exhibit "A" in photographs that poor baby Carl Crawford needs to see.

I must respectfully disagree. I refuse to accept the idea that "Monday" is a racial slur.

In my opinion, every time somebody cries the racism wolf over something as mundane as being called a DAY OF THE WEEK, it dilutes the valid claims of any individual who has actually suffered from real racism.

I think any term used to negatively describe a group of idividuals because of their race is a racial slur.

Believe me, if that guy couuld have gotten away with calling Crawford a N***er, he would have. Im not gonna cut him any slack because he devoloped a code.

Just my take. I understand being sensitive to people crying wolf on things like this.

What does referring to someone as "A Monday" mean?

An aspiring racist is interested. I don't get the meaning of it. Maybe Chas knows....

I understand you were unaware of this slur until recently, but it is a known slur. Saying you dont accept it as being offensive because its a day of the week is the same as saying you dont accept the term "coon" to be offensive because nobody should be offended by being called something as mundane as a name for another mammal.

Monday is certainly not the all star that Friday or Saturday is but at least it has some kind of a rep. I think the real loser day is Tuesday.

Monday--The Heel
Tuesday--nothing
Wednesday--Hump Day, what a great nickname. I bet he pounds away at that little whore Sunday every chance he gets.
Thursday--Not much better than Tuesday but at least it has the anticipation of the weekend
Friday--The Franchise player. This is the day you build a team around
Saturday--All around solid day. So versatile, can really do anything you ask of it
Sunday--A toned down version of Saturday. YOu know in the back of your mind that Monday is just around the corner and as good as having Sunday off is you cant really let loose like you can on Saturday.

Are you suggesting that calculating fractions isn't the mark of someone that's clever?

Tuesday is like Monday but better because you've accepted the annoyance of the day/week already because you've had time to digest it. Basically, Tuesday is BRick.

That is a bit of a generalization. We may be elitists, but bigoted is a bit of a stretch.

Can somebody please let me know what month or months of the year I cannot say in the presence of black people? Are there certain food groups I should avoid saying because they might offend somebody? What about letters of the alphabet or numbers?

So we have reached the point in our nation's history in which "Monday" equals "coon" in reference to black people.

Lovely.

Why is that sad or even unusual? Words often change meanings over time.

Precisely. Why, I remember the day when "chicken cacciatore " was just another name for a sex act.
