I don't listen to B & B precisely because of Dan Bernstein. He is a bitter, miserable, elitist prick and he offends what little sensibilities I have. I find this thread more interesting and insightful than listening to that little asshole.

I really think Dan is a bad person and wish he would have been eaten by a bear at CAMP.
I hope his son turns into Alex P Keaton but Dan is easliy the most talented and interesting host at the station.
I thought he was great solo and before politics and Important radio took over.

As others have mentioned he's helped by being surrounded by retreads and ass kissers and Larry.

The fact that his competition CJH have all been employed in sports radio for years in this town is all you need to know.

Guilty as charged, but I do take pleasure in the things Bernstein derides like; in-season wins against tough opponents, perceived "momentum" of a surging team, and feel good wins.

Bernstein seems to go out of his way to piss on everyone's parades unless they directly align with his.

I know I'm an idiot and over-reactive, but at least I recognize that.

And that's one to grow on.

Bernstein strikes me as a guy with very little ambition. I guess that's a testament to his talent that he can have a popular radio show and not really give a fuck. He could go national if he wanted but maybe the guy likes his insulated city life and wants to raise his kids without busting his ass every day. I think many of us would like to able to do that.

No wonder he hates grindy players! He can relate to the guys who can perform 110% by giving 75%.

It would depend on who replaced him and how they did. There would probably be an adjustment period. Its funny cause I really only listen in the summer and Christmas break outside of the 10 minutes I'm in my car while they are on. But the daily thread is usually entertaining to read.

I wouldn't miss the actual Boers and BernSTINE show, that's for fucking sure. But I would probably miss BernSTINE if he left the airwaves completely, he is good at his job, he is smart and I enjoy listening to him when he is actually on point and not being a d-bag clown trying to bait people with dumb arguments. I would love him with Rosenbloom or someone else who has a thought and is willing to go toe to toe with him.

Not likely, given Mitch's favorite. Laurence Holmes getting afternoon drive based on years of mediocre to bad fill-in work will be like giving the Tonight Show to Garry Shandling. In reality, he should appeal to a more elite audience doing meta-sports-talk on a podcast: The Larry Handjobs Show.

Garry Shandling is a comedic genius and was a decent fill-in for Carson.

The Larry Sanders Show is one of the best comedies ever made, but Shandling on the Tonight Show was like replacement-level stuff.

Best Larry Sanders moment ever: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KGyhOjjujV4 First time I saw this, I missed like the next three minutes laughing at it, then laughing at my laughing.

Even though B&B is my favorite show (by a mile), I've always agreed with "Who the fuck cares what Dan Bernstein thinks?"

I also can say that I have never, as in even once while watching my TV, thought about what Bernstein was thinking about anything.

I listen to the show to be entertained. No more, no less. Most of what they do is just schtick anyways, so there's not many ways to tell if they truly believe in what they're saying or not.
So in terms of importance or credibilty, I discard everything they say.

That being said, between the Tebow stuff, the Penn State stuff, and I believe that there was one other mundane, beaten to death topic that they labored on over the past year or so, I've listened CONSIDERABLY less, and I honestly thought I'd never say that.

It's just so sad what the past year has been like for this show. On a day like today where it was just free flowing, the show is still excellent. I didn't hear the entire show today, but when I was listening there was no Penn St stuff and nothing of a serious nature. It was fun, Boers was a riot in the background, and Goff was great too.

But most of all Dan was having fun and being a goof. And that's Bernsie's at his best. At least for me.

KS....it's good to have you back in my message board life.

Did you hear the Van Halen Super Bowl rumor?

I have, and I hope to God it's just that. A rumor. And that's coming from someone who loves their music. Nothing to do with "selling out." More to do with Dave's voice. Unless he's willing to try and sing the songs close to how they should be sung, he will suck. Being a great frontman doesn't always translate on TV. Live? Yes.

By the way, As Is has become my go-to favorite off the new album.

So it never crosses anyone's mind here what a sports talker or writer will say or write about a certain sporting event?

No not really. I don't see why thats strange. I just react to what they say. Once in awhile there's an exception to that, but not in the most cases.

Not while I'm watching. But afterwards I sometimes do wonder how it will be covered.

Yeah, B&B threads are filled with stuff many times before noon because no one ever thinks about how they'll react about things during the events.

There are certain standard topics (Tebow, Bulls winning a regular season game in exciting fashion) that get people going here well before the show starts.

I'm with RPB on this one. I cant look at Tebow without thinking about BernStine. It doesnt occupy my thoughts but it is like a word association thing.

A good writer will make you think what his take will be on ___

Thats how Ive always felt personally

So , when Hawk repeats the line about Viciedo having "the livest bat since Carlos Delgado", Bernstein doesnt cross your mind?

How bout any mention of momentum or wanting it more?

I miss him. I miss the host who became perhaps one of the most compelling sports talk host in the nation. A host who brought passion coupled with intelligence, a person who invested time and thought with a zeal that Chicago sports fans could connect with. I miss the host who seemed like a breath fresh air as compared to what had been the on the air before WSCR launched and subsequently thereafter. A host who had toiled a beat, who knew broadcasting, and had the perspectibve of understanding the fans and fans of sports talk.

Not to get maudlin about it but over the past few years and more incresaingly that host has been replaced by a host that has become a tedious listen. I can't say that I've been one to watch a game and wonder "what is Dan thinking?" I can say that I have tuned in (or downloaded) to hear what he had to say the following day because I thought he would bring his skills and insights to the show. I thought he would entertain if not inform, and separate himself from a Harry Teinowitz in regards to predictabilityh of thought or delivery.

Lately, and more and more, the self-indulgent predictability of the show makes it far less compelling. I tune in, I tune out. While its easy to make a list dismissing sports topics, I'm not looking for novel insight but just some of what I had become accustomed to in the past. It didn't always matter which topic or always how in depth but rather their take on that topic and the sport. Now there is a running thread of topics with a worn theme: PSU, CTE, Tim Tebow, LBJ, Patrick Kane, esoteric baseball stats.

Yes, I miss the old Dan Bernstein. I would love to know who, given the aforementioned topics, would miss the current DB?

Thought the same thing today when I heard that Andrew Luck signed today for 22 million guaranteed and Lil Danny was ripping him for staying in and not coming out last year when he could've really cashed in  Im sure he's headed right for the bread line with that 22 million.

Letterman consistently loses to Leno despite being 427 times better.

Not that Mac is Leno, but trusting the majority of the listening audience to tell you what's better is dangerous bizness.

Why?

He runs sports radio in this city. So much so that he has clones on both stations.

He is like Black Mask.
