Sheriff Joe is a bit of a nut but he does run his county jail under budget. If he has been doing things wrong then he will get what is coming to him. They are going after him for a couple of reasons,1)he got a big mouth,2)election year and Obama admin is trying to look as good as possible to the Latinos.
You want to talk about racial profiling. Do not drive in Illinois on I-80 going from the Quad Cities till around mile marker 35. Most of the pot busts in Illinois occur there. The State Police basically pull over any single Hispanic male with out of state plates. they take pride in it. You all don't hear about it in Chicago but there is at least one a week, very few get thrown out. DOJ does not go after them because this is a Blue State and POTUS has no reason to garner votes here

I really do not understand why people especially the media get worked up over ole sheriff joe? Let him look for silly birth certificate stuff and waste his time. If he gets lucky and finds something credible then I'll have a look. He has a big feud with DOJ about him putting jail inmates in pink outfits etc. and with Obama and homeland over immigrants. I am sure the liberal media embarrasses him any chance they get related to that as well.

That said, Obama's actions are sort of shady if you ask me i.e. the above mentioned college transcripts, the Holder fast and furious mess as well as his Chicago cronies. Sheriff joe may be crazy and barking up the wrong tree but I am sure there is stuff that will eventually come out from some source. Trust me that source will also be attacked.

I must be uninformed. I thought he was just embarrassing people in jail and making them sleep in tents so they wouldn't want to come back. Then again I don't care to learn about him either.

So are you saying that if not for being made to wear pink underwear, eat rotten food, and live in a tent in the middle of a desert, people would want to make a habit of going to jail? Whatever, man. It's not supermax, it's a county jail. You still have to allow people some basic dignity.

One person gets arrested on a road where tens of thousands of people probably travel every day? That's crazy talk. Where's the ACLU on this?

Wow. You are already paying for their stay, and now you want to give them the Grey Poupon Treatment, too?

No, I'm saying "don't feed them rotten food and make them live in tents." (The pink underwear is mostly pointless, punitively and ethically speaking, and only serves to indulge Arpaio's creepy fetishes.) Again, how many people in a county jail are actually convicts? Even for the ones who are, you have a responsibility not to feed them rotten food.

Look how many county jails around America just go about their business and don't make headlines for unusually draconian operations. And guess what? They have just about the same deterrent effect as Maricopa County. Guy's just a sick fuck, no way around it.

A county jail is where people are generally held for misdemeanor crimes that have a sentence of up to 364 days. Also, of course people held over for trial etc. My guess the people in tents and wearing pink striped undies are not pre trial but convicts. Just a guess though. My feeling is that while AZ seems tough I do not want inmates just hanging watching their personal tv's in a private cell eating better than a good chunk of the general public. Just me...

Is there not a way to verify the "working towards citizenship" part? Legit question. I think the whole "round em up and ship em out" mentality is a bit harsh and very hypocritical.

Friend of mine is from Arizona. Her mom was a huge fan of "Sheriff Joe," right up till she got popped for a DUI and had to spend a little time at the Hotel Maricopa. Now she wants him dead. Haha.

I'm just as averse to the old "inmates watching HBO" thing as anyone (especially because I can't imagine they'd enjoy the hit TV show Girls), but if setting up a virtual concentration camp is no more or less effective in lowering recidivism than just plain shitty old jail, then what's the point of it?

According to OKC and his Ilk we should not care about our borders and let everyone and anyone in. The biggest lie I hear from the pro illegal people is that they steal jobs Americans won't do. Really so Americans won't work in McDonalds .Also the reason Americans will not do some of the jobs is the illegals bring down wages at places that used to pay well. Look into the number of meatpacking plants that get raided. The Tyson plant here gets raided by INS at least twice a year.

Companies that hire illegal workers should receive heavy fines for hiring undocumented workers. If the fine for hiring an illegal immigrant was something like $25,000 for each illegal on the payroll (basically a year's salary at a job like this), companies would be alot more careful in selecting who to employ. This would never happen though because both parties in Washington would fight a regulation like this tooth and nail.

Comparing this to a concentration camp? You really want to go that route? And people love it until they break the law and face the consequences? Good.

They did back in 1986 ,just nobody really enforces it.

Yeah, but the fines are so minimal that nobody is scared about paying someone under the table.

http://www.legalmatch.com/law-library/article/penalties-for-employers-hiring-illegal-immigrants.html
Quote:
Under federal law, it is illegal for any employer to hire, recruit or refer for a fee any alien not authorized to work in the United States. There are criminal and civil penalties associated with this conduct.

For first offenders, there is a $250-$2,000 fine per illegal employee.

For a second offense, the fine is $2,000-$5,000 per illegal employee.

For employers who have been convicted of hiring illegal immigrants more than twice, the fine can range from $3000-$10,000 per employee. If the employer demonstrates a pervasive pattern of knowingly employing illegal immigrants, he or she could face additional fines, and up to six months in jail.

Additionally, under the Racketeer Influenced Corrupt Organizations (RICO) act, employers hiring illegal immigrants have been sued, resulting in large settlements. The lawfully documented workers of the Zirkle Fruit Company recently settled a class action lawsuit brought under RICO. The suit alleged that their employer knowingly hired undocumented workers, driving down their wages.

I would start at a minimum of $25,000 and work my way up from there. Make it so it might bankrupt someone if they hire undocumented workers.

I would guess plenty of politicians on both side of the isle are getting significant money from companies that use illegals. Which is why the fines are not very high.

Don't look at me:

Arpaio set up a "Tent City" as an extension of the Maricopa County Jail.[27] Arpaio has described Tent City as a concentration camp.[28]
