Seriously, you're around these normal-looking people just talking about the Bears game that afternoon and taking their boats out on the Chain-o-Lakes or whatever the hell, and then an accordion starts playing and they're all singing German folk music together like they were born knowing it! Never going back.

Do you realize that Germany will be participating in the Olympics?!?! How can they be proud to stand on that platform and represent a country that did such wrong things. At least they tore down their wall. I mean the Berlin Wall wasnt as bad as a Paterno statue but it was still pretty bad.

I'm starting a gay bar that specializes in carrying German soccer games. It's gonna be called The Mannschaft.

This show is bad now. You shouldn't be mad at Penn State for attempting to avoid an embarrassing scene of a small amount of students getting arrested fighting over a statue.
How could an all time great, but unpaid message board poster see exactly what was happening here but two highly paid Chicago radio legends couldn't?

This morning, as soon as there was light, they started to put a fence up and a tarp up in preparation for removal at a time when most students are probably still asleep from last nights activities.

On to the next outrage, the library that Joe Paterno literally paid for still has his name. Now, a lot of people will be outraged saying "WHY IS HIS NAME STILL ON THE LIBRARY?". The answer is "Because it's legally required to be there". Many of these big donations have major stipulations attached to them and I'm sure Penn State lawyers are working very hard to figure out how to rename it in a way that doesn't violate the protocol here. It may not even be possible unless they pay the Paterno estate a huge sum of money which I'm not sure is a better than just keeping his name up there and letting him be judged accordingly.

li'l danny wants to paint everyone in Pennsylvania as a drooling enabler of pedophilia who worships at the altar of Joe Paterno. That's his narrative and I don't believe anything could move him off it. Why do you think he's never once mentioned that four of the least attended Penn State home games occurred after the scandal broke.

That's a good point. I wonder if he'll give them credit for not naming the stadium after Joe Paterno, which is a subject he spent hours bashing them for, even though there was no indication that was ever going to happen besides some people with no power saying they should.

One more thing about Penn State and I'll stop because I really don't find it all that interesting. There are thousands of tragedies that are equal to this one that one could obsess over.

But I really think this thing is far beyond the purview of the NCAA. And frankly, I think they should stay out of it and let the legal system handle it. At this point I don't see what the "death penalty" would serve. And more than that, I find it highly offensive that the punishment for the atrocities of Sandusky and the cover-up that followed might be no different than the penalty for paying a couple star running backs or having a few players sell their gold pants for cash or trade autographs for tattoos. It diminishes what happened in State College.

Apparently the NCAA disagrees. Monday will be a thing.

My guess:
5 year bowl ban
Joe Paterno vacates all wins from 2001 and on.
Loss of scholarships for the next 10 years.
All non-conference games cancelled for 2013, 2014.

I would be shocked if they cancel the 2012 season. I could see them cancelling 2013.

Oh, and clearly any player will be able to transfer without penalty starting tomorrow. That's why they are doing it so quickly.

Uh oh. I've been told in the past this will create major anarchy. Especially if Urban Meyer shows up on campus.

It will. That's why it's a big punishment.

So what if like 80% of the team wants out immediately? Dont they sorta have to shut the season down? Or just get replacements and go out there and field an illini-caliber team?

They would have replacements and walk-ons fill it out. There would probably be open tryouts on campus if that happened. I think a lot of players end up staying though, especially if they are happy at Penn State or grew up a Penn State fan.

The ones with little ties to Penn State will, especially if they are NFL-caliber and Alabama or Ohio State is calling.
