Two things, JORR's thoughts on W/L is crazy, and Sale probably shouldn't be pitching after the 6th.

And some of you guys wonder why I'm so negative about this team.

Seriously...they're doing the same thing they've done since 2009: Enter the All-Star break either leading the division or close to the lead, and then proceed to slowly fuck themselves out of the race for the next 1 1/2 months, ensuring that by September they're no longer in the discussion.

Fuckin White Sox.

Actually, I misread JORR's statement. Went back and re-read it and agree with most of it actually. My bad JORR.
But what I disagree with is his assessment of Detroits offense.

In any 9 inning stretch they're significantly better than the Sox.

Thanks.

Well, they're averaging about the same amount of runs per game.

Why does this team crumble when they need to win? Sale has been pitching lights out and then just shits the bed at the worst time.
Sox get swept.

If you had to win one game whose offense do you use? Detroit or the Sox? I think 9 of 10 dentists and baseball fans would agree on Detroit.

There is nothing to worry about here folks.

Frank has already told us he is not worried about the Tigers. They don't have the pieces to get this done.

Sit back and relax.

I don't know. The numbers to this point suggest they're nearly identical. But I'm a big fan of Cabrera. He'd be my first pick in a draft of position players. Based on that I'd probably take Detroit. But the difference isn't significant. Anyway, my point was that over the course of three or four at-bats for each player, the difference between the best and worst lineups is negligible. Steve Clevenger can look- and has looked- better than Joey Votto over the course of four games. That's the beauty of baseball. It takes a lot of time and repetition to sort the good from the average from the bad.

I think you do know. You just don't want to admit it.
Over one 9 inning game, Detroit's offense is a ton better than the Sox is. And by the end of this season, I'm sure it will show up in the numbers you like to quote.

Looks like this time of year is really going to be tedious for WSCR's traffic/continuity department. Some days they're going to have to run the "home of the first-place White Sox" bumpers, and then other days they won't! Good thing they're not loadin' carts!

Let's revisit this in October.

Okay. But regardless of what happens neither one is going to outscore the other by more than a fraction of a run per game.

Uh huh. And that's why stats really don't matter in the single game scenario. I'd take detroits offense. I'd wager most folks do as well.

Not the start the Sox needed, Philip. The few times the Sox have managed to score this series the Tigers have scored right back.

The Sox have played poorly and that is why they are in second place currently. Detroit will not win this division.

So we should measure an offense by what you think "most folks feel" rather than by how many runs a team actually scores. Okay.

Yes the Sox have played poorly, but the Tigers have been playing well. It goes both ways.

I am glad you still have confidence in the Tigers not winning the division.

I hope you are right, but I expect them to win it by 5 or more games.

Anyway, here's my larger point, and thank you for leading me to it, Darkside. For those people who think a starting pitcher's winning percentage is "meaningless" or that people who call a guy a ".500 pitcher" are idiots, how can it be that a guy is such a great pitcher yet he can't overcome a fraction of a run difference in "run support"? Before some goof answers that "his team isn't supporting him in the games he pitches", I would submit that that has to be due to the other pitcher(s) he is facing. And how could a guy be so good if the majority of guys he actually faces outpitch him?

If Cabrera is allowed to hit another pitch in this game Ventura should immediately be dismissed.

You're just 100% wrong and I'm right. I'm sorry you find that annoying. But I'm sure most wrong people find right people annoying.

Holy fuck. Really? You're 100% right in a matter of a hypothetical opinion? You're quite modest as well aren't you. No, you're pretty much wrong here. The sox are known for being a hot and cold team. They've not been terribly consistant. In that hypothetical one game scenario, I'd take detroits offense every time over the sox. I'd wager most people would as well. Season stats, long term stats and such mean absolutely nothing in a one game scenario as I'm sure your greater rightiousness would certainly allow you to deduce. Therefore, I could give a fuck about season to date run scores stats. Also unless they play the same exact teams, players and home/away balances under identical conditions that stat is little more than a crude guide to potential future productivity. I gather you're too bright to fall for such caveman ways.
You're just arguing for the sake of arguing. I'm too tired for this kind of "Bricking". Whatever you say man at this point. Since its hypothetical, and a matter of opinion, and impossible to prove, I don't see any real point in continuing to discuss it.
Later man.

Big Fan should really create an "argument room" section when there are clearly only two guys interested in carrying on a long, drawn out debate. You let those two guys go back and forth in their own section until it's resolved.
