Do you think tipping is mandatory or would you pass on the tip if your service was terrible?

Every server starts at 20%. Can easily go up or down. I've only not tipped once and that was at Fox and Hound in Schaumburg which has the worst service possible consinstely.

I agree with this. I also make a point to tell the manager of bad service if I'm lowering or not tipping. Some things are out of the servers control but basic waiting of tables will piss me off to no end.

I overtip.

Its a movie line, but I do.

Ive worked gratuity jobs and the feeling of a suprisingly big tip is awesome.

I like to give people that feeling

But yeah, if they're bad or rude, I have no problem not tipping

It's also the consistently worst bar in Schaumburg.

20-25% for good service
15% for just ok service

I've tipped a penny twice, for just awful, awful service. Nobody's perfect and I can deal with an order that gets messed up. I can't deal with not apologizing for it and simply walking away, and me having to get somebody else to get it corrected.

True. I head there on occasion due to an industry discount card I have. Cheap apps and drinks w/ it

These 2 times I felt it was warranted. I don't think I could have been that bad if I tried. I've had very poor service a few times and left like a dollar or 2. The wrong order, and then just walking away is not acceptable. Another time we were sitting in a spot where I could see our food was ready to be served. The server was on his damn cellphone for 5 minutes while our food was sitting there....and this was after I had motioned to him that our stuff was ready. Got the "1 minute" sign in response. Seriously.

If its a place that you go often, a couple of extra bucks goes a long way.

Must be a hell of a discount, because that place is extremely overpriced.

Great service get 30% tip minimum, maybe 40% if she's really hot & I've had a few cocktails. Average service gets 20%. Lousy service gets 0 - 5%. What kills me is guys like my Father in Law, who when he gets bad service, he doesn't say anything to anyone at the restaurant & he will still tell the server that everything was great. Or my Brother in Law who will not send food back. If he gets a raw steak, hell eat the outside edges, but he will not ask them to throw it back on the grill.
I go out of my way to compliment & reward good service, as well as tell the Manager when service was bad.

I love tipping so much, I just go into restaurants, put a $20 bill on the table and walk out.

My 2nd job is a manager at a restaurant. I definitely appreciate when a table lets me know details about their service, either good or bad. My advice would be to never be shy if you don't like the food or the service sucks.

Your brother in law is smart. Any food that goes back into the kitchen is an absolute crap shoot. Even if they are clearly in the wrong you never know what kind of mood they are in. I would rather eat a raw steak than risk snot, spit, pubes, balls or ass being rubbed on my food.

You are eating at the wrong places if that's a legitimate concern of yours

I worked in a bad place and a nicer place. I have friends that have done the same. Things are awful in kitchens. I have done awful things and seen awful things done. I just smile and nod and hope I dont get the herp from some asshole in the kitchen.

Eat the fucking steak raw. I had a steak one time in Lisbon. They gave me a knife a hot rock and a big slab of raw meat.

Then they served me the steak.
