I know there are at least a few Sprint users here. I've had them for just over two years and never had any complaints about signal strength until the last few weeks. I live in that cultural Mecca known as Schaumburg and where I used to consistently have four or five bars I sometimes have none. I've also noticed the same things at my parents' house in Crest Hill.

Checked online and found people with similar, and much worse, complaints. Naturally, when they call customer service they're told that the problem will be resolved shortly but the date they give comes and goes with no improvement. A few people have filed complaints with the BBB:

After filing my BBB complaint I contacted by Joanna Ciampa (whose apparent title is Executive and Regulatory Specialist, Legal and Office of Privacy Support - Sprint Nextel Corporation) and was informed that the tower completion in Chicagoland had an estimated completion date of November!

Any of you guys having similar problems? My contract actually expired in June but I wasn't sure which phone I wanted to get so I'm on a month-to-month plan (same rate) so if I want to cancel and switch carriers it shouldn't be an issue. Other users are being told they would still have to pay an early termination fee for breach of contract even though Sprint is failing to provide a useable service.

*edit* People are being told that their "Cell Site is being upgraded to Network Vision. Temporary impairments causing increased Drops and Blocks may occur."

Sprint recently lost a bunch of towers that they used to lease from Verizon. Yes Sprints service has become worse.
I would drop Sprint in a second if I didn't have to use them due to our company corporate contract with them. If you call Sprint & complain they'll tell you the same bullshit that they have been telling everyone for some time...that they are in the process of reevaluating their towers & upgrading, blah blah blah.

I had the same issues and had to drop them. They must be losing people in droves with their shit service.

My friend posted on facebook he only receives text after someone calls him on his sprint phone the last few days. I found that a bit weird.

I just switched to my wife's plan after being on AT&T and the service was so bad that I would pick up the calls at the house, tell them as fast as I could "I'llCallYouRightBack" then hop on the land line. It literally couldn't keep a phone call connected for more than 1 minute. This was about six weeks ago through about one week ago. After last week, I haven't had any issues at all and get pretty good reception. I honestly think it is related to the tower upgrade for LTE, but I guess we'll see.

I've used AT&T and Verizon in the past and I currently use Sprint. I have to say that Sprint has the worst signal and most dropped calls. When I'm on the Kennedy between Belmont and Irving Park I always have problems with service. It isn't really something that I see as a big problem, more of a minor annoyance since the unlimited data plan from Sprint is far cheaper than any other carrier.

That was going to be my main reason for sticking with them, but if my service continues to decline it's not a big selling point if the service isn't useable.

I've been back with Sprint for 3 years, and except for a few weeks when they were upgrading towers in the Oak Park area, my service has been pretty good. There's always pockets to expect.

All that being said, my pops has been with Sprint since 2000 and he lives in Rockford, and he says his calls have been dropping extremely bad over the past few months.

I have been with Sprint for at least 10 years, and I have had very few issues in that time. Like JORR said, their data plans are solid. The biggest problem has been with the phone itself, but that is on Samsung.

I too have been with Sprint forever and have also experienced what seems like many more dropped calls in recent weeks; drops in places that used to work well, like up and down 94 between here and Milwaukee.

Until I read this I was thinking there was something wrong with my phone. Sprint's price is right and it would be a big hassle to switch so I think I will just wait awhile and see what happens.

I'm glad I switched to Verizon back in January.

I finally got tired of all the dropped calls so I went up to the sprint store to find out what is going on and what can be done.

The guy went into a long speech about how they are converting a tower or something which is resulting in dead zones. However he also suggested I call customer service and they might be able to hook me up with a device to improve reception at home, which is where I have experienced the majority of my problems.

After 35 minutes the result was a 25% credit to this month's bill (I need to call each month to get a credit on that month's bill) and a promise that by the end of the week they would send me a no charge AIRAVE, which apparently is a device that hooks up to the internet and improves reception. So we will see how that works.

My sons are big data users so I do want to try to stay with Sprint and their unlimited data plan but if this does not solve it I will probably quit them.

The Airrave basically just routes your home calls through your Internet... it is kind of like a mini cell tower. When I originally posted, I definitely could have used one in my house, but now I get four or five bars routinely, so I'm back to thinking they've upgraded the cell in my area. LTE better be worth this annoyance though.

after months of negotiations, they are finally offering us Nextel subscribers free phones with no extension on a contract. We have been with Nextel for over 10 years and are now moving to Sprint. Anything [ANYTHING] is better than Nextel for phone reception.

I didn't even know Nextel still existed.

apparently, at times neither does Sprint.

I've been with Sprint for over 10 years and haven't had many problems until this year. I'm finding that I'm not able to get service in too many places. It becomes a major inconvenience at times.

Things have improved and during the last two weeks I've been getting nearly a full signal at home most of the time. It hasn't been as consistent as it once was but things definitely seem to be improving. As with newper, it looks like they also improved the cell tower(s) in my area.

I didn't even know Nextel still existed.

We had Nextel at work for the push to talk function as our place is really big and it made it much easier to communicate. In the early summer our sales and tech reps came in to say some changes were coming and we may see some small issues for a week or two, but assured us our tower would not come down. Well, the tower was deactivated and neither the Nextel walkie talkie nor the Sprint phone service worked for weeks. Their solution was to give us free phones on their new network with Sprint push-to-talk as Nextel is now gone. The Sprint push to talk cuts out every second or third word. The phone service is even worse. I cannot believe Sprint will have any customers by the end of the year.

I got a new phone last week, and I haven't had a single issue with phone calls. At the end, my last phone would take twenty minutes just to power up. Sometimes, I couldn't even open up the dial pad to make a call, or the contacts to call from another phone. It was ridiculous. The guy at the Sprint store said that it was an old android operating system, 2.0 I believe, and it couldn't handle the upgrades over the last two years.
