Why couldn't they? Something like this has never happened in college athletics history. It likely won't ever again. This was basically 5 guys trying to save themselves so they kept things quiet. The same thing could happen with the Patriots or Saints just as easily. In fact, both of them have recently had coverups themselves, though obviously not criminal.

I don't know why anyone would think this exact same thing couldn't happen with a pro sports team. It's not likely but it wasn't likely in college either.

When does Bernstein eventually break down and tell the story of what happened to him at camp when he was a kid? I think at some point, Score management will tell him to curtail the Penn State talk (maybe in a year or so) and he'll breakdown and let the cat out of the bag.

Also, "At least Brandon Marshall isn't raping people" isn't exactly a good way to be on moral grounds. The fact is that all fan bases still support the team they like even when they likely shouldn't based on moral reasons. We all will be excited the first time a guy who beats women catches a pass from Jay Cutler. Is that really better than cheering for a Penn State touchdown by a school that has fired everyone who was involved in the coverup?

Something tells me an NFL player wouldn't leave the locker room without doing anything if he witnessed a child being raped.

I would have said the same thing about a college player too. I also would have said the same thing about an NFL player running a dog fighting/killing operation. You really think NFL players are beacons of morality?

The Marshall stuff is creepy as hell. When the Bears acquired him, they spent an afternoon implying that an aversion to employing serial abusers of women is some antiquated notion that's kept the Bears from the NFL's elite and that anyone who's ever uttered the word "character" aloud is a racist. Meanwhile they describe Marshall in terms that amount to racially coded pornography and then spend the better part of a year grandstanding about how anyone with a Penn State B.A. is radioactive.

I missed some of the interview. Did B&B ask Michael Bush about his DWI or did they just look past it like it wasn't a big deal?

I don't think it was brought up.

But I'm sure there were "by cracky" mentions.

Hey, having a history of violence, beating the shit out of multiple women and driving impaired with the possibility of killing someones children takes a back seat when we are talking about BIG.BOY.FOOTBALL. Oh, and in BernSTINES view of the world these are nothing but plantation workers who would be in jail if it weren't for their "gifts."

Now, college football players wanting to play and win football games is a horrible, terrible thing that stirs the echoes of the Third Reich and Pol Pot.

If one of the McCaskeys were a serial pedophile the Bears would still have a season ticket waiting list thousands deep.

I agree. I'm done with college sports because of some bad people that are associated with it. I'm wearing my Brandon Marshall jersey right now and loving the wife abusing touchdown machine!

Do you really think a professional sports franchise would conspire to cover-up child rape and allow it to go on for more than a decade? There certainly are bad people in pro sports too, but nothing that rises to the level of what happened at Penn State. Your analogy is silly and extremely off base.

It's also silly to project PSU's unprecedented events upon other universities. I don't like college sports, but I also don't think this stuff is going on and being covered up at other schools.

I'm not saying it does, but the culture of college athletics breeds the type of atmosphere where it can happen.

That is not what I am saying. There are individual criminals in any organization - be it sports, banking, or otherwise. It is the institutional conspiracy to cover up the horrific crimes that were committed that is particularly galling...all in the attempt to protect a fucking college football program. And, yes, I do think that that atmosphere is more conducive to that type of behavior.

Oh yeah ..... I also had the option of using a pic w/ Michelle & LeBron, but that didn't strike me as inappropriate a pic to post as the Kobe one.

Well, the players play for the sake of the purity of the game.

Sorry, I was pretending to be retarded.

There's obviously no big difference in the "cultures" .... which, a tip to all: this is currently the annoying buzzword that tells people that you have no fucking purpose other than to repeat what someone else told you to say. Quit using it. Thank you.
