Dan prefers Laurence

Terry prefers me... I am off this Friday and Jason will sit in with Terry

Good question....I wanted to do Saturday mornings. I even would have done updates to save money...

Good bump Dr. Ken.

This reply here by Drinky is insteresting as well.

And he was wrong, Bernsie did an answer question thread here.

This is back when drinky used to give us real answers - before he was Beardown-ed.

5 year plan? I hope my future is at the Score as a full-time host.

I can't speak for any full-time host with regards to their contracts, but any host who has half a brain has a clause in their contract that allows them to have final say on any co-host. Any host can build that into their contract. From what I know, it's not too hard to get that into the contract. Hope that helps a little.

Dan doesn't read the message board. Dan and Terry would not respond if asked any questions here.

Just ran across this during an Ultraback search. Thought it was interesting.

Of course this would be the case. Especially for established vets like Bernstein. Why do you think Larry has been sucking Dan's balls for a decade? Drinky figured out Bernstein doesn't think much of him as a talk show host a while ago. That's why he's been nothing but mean to him for the last few years. Goff still gives Bernstein the proper amount of respect in the hopes that Bernstein picks him.

It would crush Larry and Goff if Bernstein picked Rosner or Rosie. Especially Larry.

Why not have a podcast? Have one that covers pop culture or whatever is on your mind. Make it a national type of thing. Who cares about the Sox being 1/2 back in standings or wherever they are. Talk about movies and TV shows and put yoru spin on it. Doesn't have to be a 5 day a week thing. Once a week, an hour max. It would be a good way for you to branch out and make fans out of the Chicago metro area.

Just follow these three important rules:
1) Make it itunes accessible through the itunes store.
2) Have superior audio equipment, make sure your podcast is crystal clear
3) Don't talk about Chicago sports.

That is the best career advice that I could offer. I would even bring in a friend of yours that you have a good rapport with to co-host. No one from the Score.

1. Drinky would not have a succesful podcast. What are you talking about? You have to be well known for that to work. He's not going to get a national audience. Nobody outside of B&B listeners know him.

2. Drinky couldn't bring in a friend to cohost with him. He has to take whatever he can get and work with whomever they tell him. We were talking about guys like Mac and Berntein. They have a say in their co hosts. Not everybody at the Score. Certainly not backups like Goff, Larry and Drink.

You do not have to be well known to have a podcast.

Right. But you have to be well known to acually make money on a podcast. I would think that would be the goal of doing it.

Not necessarily. Start small like everyone else.

The key is you have to have a strong base and build on that.

Thousands of failed podcasters across this country all started with that great idea.

Nobody in Chicago is gonna choose a drinky podcast over whatever the Score or ESPN is offering in the day. Let's live in reality.

I agree it's more likely he would fail.

You know what might work for drink and Goff because of their notoriety on the B&B show? If they became a Chicago area DJ tandom. I'm dead serious. They could do wedding, barmizvahs and proms. All of that shit. Not only could they spin records, but they could tell racist jokes. B&B would help pimp them out on their show. This could work.

I'm not talking about Drinky being the next Adam Corrola. I'd have him do a non-sports Podcast. You wouldn't believe the amateurs out there that have tons of fans. Pick a niche like TV. Do an episode by episode recap of a favorite show of yours...say Mad Men (Don't know if Drinky even watches it). Case in point. I love Breaking Bad. I listen to a ton of podcasts about the show. Some are really good, while others are decent.

Beardown: When I say he can bring a co-host, i'm talking about the podcast. This would be a Drinky Production that is totally outside the confines of the Score. Let him bring someone he gets along good who doesn't have career ambitions in radio. Go and make a 60-90minute podcast a week that is tight and well produced. You have the training, the audience would love a well-produced cast.

I'm basically trying to tell Drinky to be proactive. Keep up his day job and branch out and network at night. Last thing he should be doing is crossing his fingers for the next 5 years HOPING he is the next one.

I knew what you meant Quad.

Around Comics started small and grew huge. It was three guys that Hung around Chicago comic book stores.

The Transmission was a Lost podcast that had huge numbers. It was a husband and wife from Hawaii.

It can be done.

If drinky is still answering questions in "Ask Drinky" I'd like to know why Mitch and/or Zim fired him as Cubs reporter.

It's a legit quetion. Don't yell at me.

I find it interesting that he seems to have picked up on Goff's tactic of getting involved in the conversation that the station has proclaimed him to be an "expert" on. In Goff's case, he makes his way into most NBA Conversations. In this case, Abattacola seems to get involved in Cub debates (the latest being the 'Is Ryan Dempster a bad person?").

I've noticed this too. Made sense when he was a Cubs reporter I guess. Now that he's fired, I don't know why he feels the need to add to Cubs talk with B&B. It's almost like he's saying "I'm the authority here." Uh...no.

Look, Bernstein has it on the money most of the time. It's either Drinky jumping in to agree with Bernstein or it's drinky jumping in to say something stupid. He's just a yahoo Cubs fan watching games now that he's not at the park every game. Just like all other yahoo Cubs fans. We don't need to hear from him. I didn't like hearing from him when he was at the games either. Bernstein makes a fool of him quite often on Cubs talk. I feel bad for him sometimes.

I'm assuming it's just an act, but he comes off as way too angry or combative in some of these situations. With Goff, it's more of a conversation (whether you agree or disagree with him is another debate at times).

Sometimes it's an act. Sometimes it's genuine anger and jealousy from drink towords Bernstein.

When it comes to Cubs talk, Drinky wants to show Bernstein he has the bigger cock. Wants to show Score listeners too. It's one of those things. That's not an act. He thinks he should be a respected "Cubs voice" in Chicago media. He tries to push that. But drinky comes off looking like an idiot on a lot on Cubs discussions with Bernstein. I can't remember specifics cuz I forget these dumb talks right after they happen, but Bernstein has made drinky look the fool on a lot of Cubs discussions.

I like Matt but I wonder if it pisses him off to be basically the same age as Dan (maybe 3-4 years younger) and have to watch him rake in the money with no show prep, whilst producing his show. I think it would piss me off no matter how happy I might be with my situation. Maybe you could take it if the person was nice but Bernsie is a total jag, independent of his bits and schtick. He's back to doing scoreboard updates now. That's Adam Harris bitch boy prag work. Sounds like Drink is in the Mitch Rosen doghouse.

I thought the Score hierarchy was

regular host > guest host (as of the still-largely-effective Drew Hayes edict to use newspapermen instead of Score buttmonkeys as guest hosts) > reporter = executive producer = regular update guy > sporadic update guy > associate producer > intern > Tim Baffoe

which would put Drinky above a Matt Rodewald who just does updates, and above Jay Zawaski who mostly just produces, but beneath Barry Rozner, who isn't full-time but can stroll into the studio and do a four or five-hour show whenever. I don't think he's in the doghouse at all.

drinky and Goff could step into the evening shift tomorrow and do a better show than Sir. As with most companies, they just haven't found a manager who is willing to push for them.

Not that I have anything against the WB Club on Saturday mornings, but does anyone think Drinky or Goff would be a good partner for Rosenbloom?

I think drinky AND Goff would be excellent partners for Bernstein after Boers' imminent passing or for Mac after Spiegel's imminent passing.

Rosenbloom in the driver's seat is so...there that there's not really room for anyone other than the most bland of bland, like Paruch or Grote.

Drink is doing updates today. He's been doing them more often. I think Mitch finally found something for him where he can do the least amount of damage. I haven't heard him do a show in a while. Joe O, Finfer and Connor might passed him up for those duties.

Talk show host - Bad

Cubs reporter - Bad

Update guy - Not great, but not horrible. It's tough to screw up updates. He writes simple copy. But he doesn't slur his speech as much when he's reading like he does when he's speaking with no script. He does like to tell bad jokes at the update desk which needs to stop. But he still wants to have people notice him. Still wants to get his shine on. So that probably won't stop. He thinks he's funny which is all that matters to him.

According to Lawrence Holmes, there is a real art to writing your updates and style to delivering them. This is no easy job.

The Score has had dozens of complete retards do updates over the years. Add the drink to that list.

Mitch finally stuck drinky here for some shifts so he doesn't have to hear him cry about being a producer while still thinking about the listeners. Like I said, can't screw this one up as much as you can being a reporter or a talk show host.

Dan would say that is a bullshit excuse and they are not good enough. Kind of like how he mocks NFL players who get cut and claim it was due to the numbers game.
